    Hi Deb,

While I was waiting for my DMP to be set up, I sent token payment by cheque with a covering letter say I was entering in to a DMP.

Like you, I had quite a few to send and it wasn't easy for me to get to a post office to get the postal orders. I still get some phone calls, but I just tell them that my records should show that I'm on a DMP with Payplan and if they want information regarding their payment to speak to them. This usually stops them from calling for a little while :j

    I hope this helps.

    Hi

When we were entering into out DMP with Payplan, they advised us to send token payments to all our creditors of no more than £10 each, but not to send anything to our bank, where we had an overdraft and a loan. Just make the usual payments tp them until we had sorted out our new bank account, and that we had confirmation that our salaries had been paid into the new bank. They also said to send cheques, not to pay by phone, because they can refuse to accept the token payment, whereas when you send it by post, they have to accept it.

Keep on going, you're doing fine.

    Hi Elsie

Thankyou for sharing that - I think this weekend I shall sit and write some cheques and get them posted off - wont be much but I suppose anything is better than nothing and it shows I do want to pay the debt off......
Did payplan ask for you to have a basic bank account? Just wondering as both you and Terri paid by cheque yet we have been told to get a basic account with no cheque book......

I had this current account before I started on my debt free journey, the main thing is that it doesn't have an overdraft on it, which seems to be the main thing from what I've read. Also a friend of mine has entered in to an IVA agreement and the company she's with seems to ok with her having a cheque book for her new account, again this account has no overdraft facility.

Hardly anyone takes cheques these days so i've only got it to pay bills of that I can't do through internet banking as I don't really like the idea of filling out card details on payment forms.
