  • Before SpeedFerries we used to use NorfolkLine. Dunkirk a bit of a pain and the crossing twice as long but fares always reasonable. This from their website might be of interest to people bound by school holidays or otherwise restricted to peak fares for peak times on onther routes.

    There's also this offer:
LD Lines, who will operate a service between Dover and Boulogne next summer, are offering a 75 per cent discount on its current prices for people with valid tickets booked on the Dover to Boulogne route.
Chairman of LD Lines, Pierre Gehanne, announced the special deal on his blog that will let customers turn up at the ports of Portsmouth, Newhaven, Le Havre or Dieppe with their tickets an hour in advance for travel before December 17.
After this date people who were intending to travel between Dover and Boulogne are asked to contact the ferry firm to arrange their replacement booking.
  • This now on the speedferries website
The Joint Administrators regretfully announce the closure of Speedferries Limited (in administration). The Joint Administrators have been exploring every possible avenue to save the business since 12 November 2008 and it is unfortunate that a buyer for the business has not been found.
Speedferries Limited (in administration) will now cease to operate services between Dover and Boulogne and customers with pre-booked tickets are advised to seek alternative travel arrangements.
Customers who have booked by way of credit card should contact their credit card providers to determine if they are eligible to claim a refund for these now cancelled services.
All creditors, including customers who are affected by the cancelled crossings, will be contacted by the Joint Administrators in due course.

So many regrets........have all my journey tags stowed in car pockets still.
Still trying to find car+trailer journeys below £200-300.
It feels as though much of my life will close down now.

...how poetic... I feel sad too, but not so much as to stop me bunging in a claim against my credit card co!
  • Ampersand, can you PM me with your requirements as I have done a quote with LD Lines and come back with £124 return for Portsmouth to Le Havre.

I have spoken with Amex, as I have 2 block bookings unused, and they say that these will refundable when the letter is received from the administrators stating the company is closing. Good news indeed as that's £500 worth!

I feel so sorry for the SpeedFerries staff, who were always so pleasant.

Anyone know of any block booking voucher schemes with the other operators that are good offers ?

    Yes, I do so agree.
I was on first name terms with many of them and they bent over backwards to help when I had to leave urgently in May when someone was ill. Was away 5 months then and will so miss my journeys.
