Thanks for all your replies! We live in a semi-detached house, pretty quiet street, but there's a pavement along a few yards from our door and sometimes not-so-clever/drunk teenagers are having stroll by, so that would be my main concern. We always put lights on the tree/hedges in front of the house and they were vandalised 2 xmas ago(brutally cut in pieces-there're some real saddos out there) Thanks god we're lucky with the neighbours however. I still think I would it give it a go , thinking about making one myself from xmas tree cuttings/pinecones, should be lovely:)0

I have the same problem as beccles and savvy, used to do it when we had the wooden door and used a hook, but then changed to UPVC and had to tie it to the door knocker with ribbon as the hooks are useless with UPVC.
Now we have bought a different house and have UPVC and no door knocker!! I'll have to be a little bit more inventive this year of how to hang one I think!!!
I do think they look like you have made a bit of an effort, and are quite welcoming to guests, neighbours etc0 -
I made one from holly, conifer leaves and pine cones with tartan ribbon, gold spray paint on the holly and glitter all put together with florist wire .To attach it to the pvc door i used double sided cellotape on the glass panel ,this looked quiet pretty and cost me next to nothing and if you have children you can get them to make them and gather the bits you need on a country walk.Give it a try the kids will love it they get so excited.0

i made one with a garland i found in the pound shop wound it into a wreath secured with wire and just added ribbons and fake berries cost very little but looks lovely has been on door for last 7 xmases and never been touched. i have a upvc door now but last year i bent the metal hook thing your supposed to put over door and put it through letter box a bit tricky but it makes it hard to remove and i have wreath fastened to it with wire it hangs a bit low but as we have patterned glass at the top it looks ok and green and red against white door looks lovely.:coffee:i find a cup of tea can solve most problems:coffee:
 but alcohol solves them all

I hang mine out of a window, on christmas eve (my porch fronts onto the pavement not my door) and I hang the Santa key on it so he can get in as we don't have a chimney.0

We won't be putting one up as we live in a block of flats and so it would only ever be seen by us and the other two couples on our floor.
My mum and dad have had one up since I can remember and have never had trouble but they do live in a fairly rural area.
Its sad to think that people now days have to consider the risks of theft and vandalism when thinking of doing something like putting a wreath up in their own garden. Saving hard for a brighter future!:beer:0 -
I make mine and I make lots for the family and friends, for people who live closer to the road worring about them getting stolen, I put extra holly in so they would get prickled!!£23366/ £39206.92 DFD Nov 20160
