  • i would love to but it wouldnt last 5mins with kids on estate - behaviour leaves abit to be desired - they knicked the doorbell on halloween cos we didnt answer the door (we think reason) we wernt even at home!

We live in a terraced house that faces straight onto the street so, much as I'd love to, I wouldn't want to take the chance - especially as its the main route to the secondary school.
If I had just that litle bit more frontage then I would. I do love to see them

Apologies but that made me laugh. But then that is my mind.

I do like to see a good bit of frontage.
  • I put one on the door every year - it is so quiet in our neighbourhood though, if it ever went missing the suspects would either be the postie or the birds. And with no street lights, you wouldn't even have a chance to see it at night!

I always put one up - never had a problem, but my area is pretty quiet.

OP - if you are unsure, put a cheapish one on the door this year to test, then if it lasts the season, put a better one out next year.

  • anyone hesitating about this, why not buy a cheap one and try it out, if it gets nicked or ruined then you know not to buy a decent one. i know its not money saving but worth a go, i did this about 4 years ago and it never got touched so halfway thru the festive season i changes it for a lovely fresh one from the florists and buy a new one every year now.

Always have a wreath on our door too and never had a problem. I think most people appreciate the effort made and enjoy seeing them. Well, I know I do :D
  • I would love a wreath this year, but would probably go down the modern route and quite fancy a black feather one, as my colour scheme is black, silver and purple. I saw a gorgeous one last year at m and s that wasn't that badly priced, but I don't know if they have it this year. I would probably make sure it was well tied on to prevent the vandals, or put it on the inside of the front door or in the hallway. x

When I had an outside front door, I hung the wreath on the outside. I had one of those over the door hooks and a couple of small D shaped nails hammered into the door, so I could loop that green garden wire through and tie the wreath on. Partly to stop it blowing away as we live on a hill and we get high winds, and partly so it couldn't be just lifted off.

Last year we replaced the wooden door with a UPVC one, so I had to hang it on the inside glass instead as the door wouldn't shut with the hook on!
I have the same problem Becles, lol not that I have a lovely new door, it's made of glass and old aluminium
Anyway, I get round my problem by tying ribbon onto the wreath, then using a big suction cup hook that you can get for Christmas lights and tying the other end of the ribbon onto that. Stick the hook on the inside of the door, and flip the wreath and ribbon over the top so that it hangs down on the outside of the door ;) that way it's only the flat ribbon that has to be shut in the door.
