FSCS Chief Executive Loretta Minghella says: "Five weeks ago a lot of Icesave savers were worried that they were going to be left high and dry. Now they can be confident that the process is underway and people are getting their money back." 17th November 2008/quote]

Ms Minghella is like Nigella. She makes provocative, sexed up promises of tasty things to come, but is always in danger of burning her fingers. ;)

I used to be a meek and mild mannered little bear before Icesave went tits up. :p

How come the rate has gone down by 2%, after BoE dropped the prime rate by 1.5%? How come we get notification today (Wednesday 18th), but it's effective November 7th - 11 days ago? How come as a 'new' ING Direct saver I can get 6% AER (for the first 12 months at least), while as an 'old' (I.e. Kaupthing Edge) account holder I can only get 4.55%?

I'm not impressed with ING Direct.

I think the 2% cut includes the first 0.5% cut in October.
I feel fortunate that I had a substantial deposit in KE's one year 7.15% fixed rate bond and that on takeover Ing promised to honour this rate. I've not got much in the ordinary access account.

And someone is now going to post "Didn't you see Ing have reneged that promise." and I'm going to fall to the floor.......

Can't believe it!! 2nd email arrived 1.01pm surname letter E.Immediately initiated claim and look forward to seeing money in my acccount by Tuesday next week. Was beginning to despair. Good luck to you all it will come and thank you to those who have kept our spirits up-you know who you are!
  • Certainly does!

Well, I think I'm going to go out and do a spot of shopping today as I can't face another day sat here waiting :o

Have fun at the shops today Chameleon. They said on the news today that inflation is likely to turn to deflation with cheaper food and fuel prices in the near future, so at least that's some consolation for the derisory interest rates which we're all likely to earn when we go to reinvest our Icesave cash. "Every cloud has a silver lining". ;)

I only ended up buying one thing (a great MSE bargain mind :money: ) and was the main reason I went into town. There are certainly some good offers around at the moment but my heart just wasn't in it. Gotta be a first for me to come home almost empty-handed! :T

:j :j My Mum just got her 2nd email and has claimed. She was one of the unlucky ones whose first email got stuck in spam, so there's good news for all those thus affected.
(We also changed her email to a google one and sent blank email and then changed email back again etc, so was worried I'd "confused the system")

    You cannot be serious!

I don't think there really is a second email, the whole thing is a hoax and all the people who post here saying that they have had this elusive email are just FSCS employees who have joined MSE to keep the hoax going. :o

And more to the point...ha...ha...how do we know that these second emails were not from a physhing website.....and now they have their bank details.....

That's ING for you, it's the reason that 1000's of savers left them around 2 years ago.

I must be the worst saver on this site. Until September this year I had quite a substantial sum in a Standard Life 50 day notice account. The interest rate was rate poor about 0.5% below base rate. I then became aware of bank compensation limits. I had no idea of where to split and deposit the funds so I came here. I looked at various banks and the best offers available. Icesave was about third on the list. I read about how it was not fully covered by the FSCS but that it was covered by the passport scheme. I read the forum and there were a few warning of Icelandic banking becoming unstable, I wish I'd took more notice of them than being lured by the higher interest rates. I bunged some in Bradford and Bingley - Bing went ping! - what a lucky escape. Bunged some in Kaupthing - went Kauput! - even luckier escape. Bunged some in a post Office Bond - Bank of Ireland - heard it's gradually sinking into the Irish Sea! - and finally bunged some into Icesave - melted! - and here I am today.

God that's been very therapeutic. Like an AA meeting " Hi I'm amistupid. I'm an alcholic", perhaps we should start all our posts on this thread "Hi I'm Joe Bloggs, I'm an Icesaver"

After all those close shaves and self therapy I shouldn't be moaning.:D

But I am Why? Because I'm bl**dy human.

Moral of the story never ever put your dosh where I put mine ;)
