"If we can lose our heads when all about us are keeping theirs"0

Good afternoon everyone.
No 2nd email today but some outfit offering me savings in the spam box. This is the second one in a fortnight and having never received anything similar I am wondering whether there is a connection with our 1st emails being sent by a mass mailing company.
A couple of pieces of information I would like to share:
- I read on another site that FSCS will not be sending tax certificates for 2008/09 tax year. For those of us with fixed issues maturing within 08/09 tax year I assume we just plus up by 20% for gross interest and hope HMRC don't ask for paper proof other than copies of Icesave statements.
- There is something about FSCS updates that has been niggling at the back of my mind since yesterday:
if only 10,000 people had 2nd emails in 5 day trial run up to Friday 15th
and yet FSCS claim to have paid out 0.5 billion, then average payout
was £50,000
if 100,000 had 2nd email by Friday 21st and FSCS claim to have paid out
another 0.5 billion plus 133 million set aside for fixed terms average
payout for 90,000 people was £7,000
How is this possible? Any ideas anybody ?0 -

I just do not believe anything the FSCS say.
I'm with you on this. There's a total lack of transparency in the whole operation."L'enfer, c'est les autres"0 -

Is this because of the 3-5 day delay between email and payout? So by Fri 15th only a very small number of those emailed had actually got their dosh. But by last Fri.... Well, something like that ?Every rule has an exception.......:rolleyes20 -
Hi All - not deserted you - been doing stuff with daughter which seems to always involve spending money ( mine not hers). As she is off doing "bereavement counselling" which seems to involve DVD's, popcorn and pizzas I even volunteered to cook the main course of the special meal shis is supposed to be cooking for her BF's birthday. God I'm a saint.
Needless to say nothing in the in box of any interest. DD must of been one of the first 100 when she got her 2nd email 2 weeks ago
Anyway off to an overnight party soon - so lots of sorrow drowning as no driving responsibilities.
Good luck - will check in tomorrow0 -

Anything is possible to the FSCS. Methinks they are a bunch of pathological liars.
On a serious note, analysis of FSCS claims which has been made several times here over the past weeks suggests anomalous reporting that is inconsistent with the known data, typical of manufactured data by someone who is not particularly, shall we say adept at such matters.0 -
Oh Nilrem, you had me well taken in there - I was jumping for joy!!
p.s. how do you guys do these quotey bits? When I press button "quote" it comes up with hieroglyphics and not a nice little box.
Is it because - oooh I hardly dare ask this:eek: - I'm using firefox?Every rule has an exception.......:rolleyes20 -

Lovely day here. just back from some cycling (incidentally wrap up warm Nilrem if you are out cycling tomorrow). Disappointed to see no reported second emails.
The FSCS announcement on 17/11 said they had paid out 0.5 billion. You might remember that for about 10 minutes there was another update on 17/11 that said that 50,000 had been offered compensation but this was taken down.
Looks like this 50,000 figure was correct (i.e 50,000 emails = 0.5 billion compensation is same as 100,000 emails and 1 billion compensation).
The original 10,000 batch was obviously referring to the emails sent out in the first couple of days although the 16/11/08 press release was very misleading.
So numbers of second emails sent were 50K (17/11), 75K (19/11), 100K (21/11)MSE. Abandon hope all ye who enter here0 -
Cannot believe I am sitting here waiting and watching while some people got all their money back 2 weeks ago.
The FSCS could have done an overnight batch run ages ago, printed cheques with auto signatures and everyone would have been done and dusted.
Security issues? Simply requiring everyone to answer a question in the first email to the effect that "IS your current address the same as the address on opening the account?"
Any problems with this approach?0
