I would love to know if the FSCS had ever done a test run to see how the system would work in the event of a bank going bust.

I think that we are the test run TBH!

Not sure if the topic is still applicable to this Thread, but myself & both of my parents are still awaiting our 2nd emails

Yes it sure is topical and welcome to the thread. :)

Just in case you wondered - my Dad hasn't had any whiff of a 2nd email yet.

Saturday morning, bl**dy Tesco's run, hoping they accept Icesave tokens, at least for frozen goods.
Hold the Tesco run I have it on good authority the FSCS have run out of money and are now issuing compensation in the form of Iceland vouchers. If you have an ISA you keep the tax free status as an adjustment will be made for any VAT you pay on items sold by Iceland :D

Many thanks Harrowing! I had a look at the article and found two things interesting:

    1) The Ft writes "The FSCS has so far sent out 75,000 e-mails inviting Icesave customers to log on to the website and transfer their money to a nominated account. "

We know by now that Icesavers with multiple accounts had separate emails for each account. That means the FSCS still have to send out 125 000 or so mails within the span of the next ten days. In other words, they are not even half-way there yet. Is it just me or does that seem to contradict their website announcement that they are allegedly "well on track".

    2) The FT also points out: "But Landsbanki Guernsey customers are not covered by any protection scheme and have so far been offered an initial part payment of just 30 per cent of their funds from Deloitte, the bank’s administrator."

Spare a thought for those unfortunate savers. I can't even imagine how upset they must be...
  • Agreed. Awful situation re 2). Re 1, they can only be on track if they were "running the car in" to see how it performs and now ratching it up to Porsche Carrera capabilities....
[though still seems stuck in 1st gear to me]

To be fair to the FSCS (Lol I am not often) I believe that the FT is behind the times as the 75,000 figure was reported by the FSCS several days ago, they have published updated figures since then which suggest 100,000 people and over 1bn paid back. :)

The did the running in for week one and should have been ramping up last week. We have seen no evidence of this.

    Maybe today :j .

Quite. But do you think they can actually be that efficient? ;):D
