Last year, I bought some cheap small mixer glass tumblers ........ put in each, small amount of fine gold metallic strips (buy it in cheap card shops....you know the stuff, drape it on xmas trees....looks as though its been through a paper shredder - sorry, I'm hopeless at explaining myself !!) then any mixture of gold wrapped chocolates I can find, gold chocolate coins, a cadbury's chocolate wishes in each one (buy when on offer) and a £1 Christmas Lottery Ticket. Wrap then, in clear cellophane....mine had small gold stars on, tie off with metallic gold ribbon on top curled and I added my pot of gold verse (see pic of it which I put on this thread a few pages back - page 35 post #688) and a small glittery gold tree decoration snowflake on it. Put them on the Christmas table along with crackers at each table setting. I've got 16 to do this year !!!

So far I've looked in Tesco, Poundland, Matalan & Poundstretcher and not found the perfect pot yet. I've been avoiding glass because I'm making some for small children, but I only have Morrisons and Asda Living left to try so I may not have any choice.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Photogenic I've been Money Tipped!
Last year I made these for all the staff at school. :

Gather your supplies (the round tub on the left with the house on is a tin of mulled wine travel sweets ususally available from A*di ;)) :

And start to arrange. I attached some tinsel around the bottom of the plastic cup so that it dressed it up a little bit ;):

Arrange nicely, and finish off with a little more tinsel :D You can never have enough tinsel at Christmas :rotfl::

Place into the bag, staple the top together neatly then tape the stapled part down to neaten it up:

Tape the bottom corners of the bag to "polish" the presentation:

Take your tag with your poem and attach using gift ribbon. Put the giftbow ontop of the stapled bit to hide the staples. Then if you're using the tin of sweets as well, sit the package ontop of the tin, ontop of two (or more) contrasting coloured sheets of tissue paper which are at an angle to each other :

Pull up the sides of the tissue and gently tie around the bottom of the bow, allowing the tag to hang out over the side. Then you're done :D:

  • Wow, they look great.

I'll give it a go and let you know if I find any suitable containers. I'm into town on Sat to scour the pound shops! :T

Does anyone know if any shops have the gold scratch cards? I have most of my bits for making the pots of gold (decided to use the ilea small kilner jars as have some left from when we made the Chutneys) - want to get them all made up and wrapped as at the moment I just want to eat all the chocolates I've bought for them lol!

Just done my Tesco online grocery shop (before the double points end :() Noticed they have Cadbury's Wishes Gift Packs 151g, 14 in the box....look to be mini ones, but they will be great in my Pots of Gold and better than paying 50p each especially when I need 16 for the Christmas table and then more for teachers etc. I'll let you know what they are like after my order gets delivered tomorrow teatime. Just found the link below to view them !
