  • PS.. Interesting Poll Jon_Groovy

And very interesting characters from you Mark789:rotfl: :rotfl:

Indeed! A slightly sarcastic attempt to encourage folks to post in English as I was getting bored with entering Irish into an online translator and getting Double Dutch back.
I entered "Is there any chance that we could keep posts in English so everybody can understand?" and translated to Korean, which I understand just as well as Irish - i.e. not at all, and got "
우리가 영어로 포스트를 지킬 있었다 그래서 모두가 이해할 다는 것을 어떤 기회 있는가?"
the reverse translation is "The possibility we defending the post with English it is and so all it will understand wearing out there is a what kind of chance?", which is about as much use to me as the translations of the Irish that I got back.

On a more serious note, the broad spectrum of support and interest is most welcome and demonstrates what I always have believed: that those of us from Norn Iron will support each other through thick and thin whatever their cultural alliegance but we can be a bit silly wrt some local stuff.

I found the EU answer very interesting, but don't expect much from it. Basically, they said that they won't stop GB helping us, but didn't say that he had to. Being a victim of Equitable Life, the EU told UK they it was guilty of regulatory failures and to help victims, but it still didn't happen.
  • I have heard a few whimpers - did we have investments or savings in PMS???? Well mine were savings>>>>

    Rules of the Society

Page 3 - (a) to promote thrift amonst its members by the accumulation of their savings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (b) to use and manage such savings for the mutual benefit of its members at a fair and reasonable rate of interest

    Savings - deposits

Fair and reasonable rate of interest - we could have received a higher interest in other instititutions but chose to support our CHURCH - who are now desserting us!!!!
  • Thanks everyone for your posts on this forum and NewsPaper clippings, it was a lifeline.

I shall ever be haunted by those phone calls I made to PMS the Month prior to going into administeration when I was told my savings was safe.

Now I discover400+ people were removing their money at that time (£21 million).

I feel a complete fool and I will never get over it

Don't feel that way. Plenty of very intelligent savvy investors were caught out too.(Mr Cairns). You were honest in your dealings and trusted within your faith - you have nothing to reproach yourself with. Always remember that it is not only a secular administrator these people have to face but ultimately a Judge who will see through all the bluster and lies. I wouldn't like to be in the shoes of a liar and cheat on Judgement day. "Whatsoever you do unto the least of these my children - you do so unto me".
Chin up Belfastgran - its not your fault - you invested to help your church - you were not wrong or foolish.

Did office eventually stop answering the phones? - perhaps just too many callers? - or I wonder if someone consciously decided that the "all is well" response could no longer be peddled and no response was better.
Not that it makes any difference of course - it is just the integrity thing.
  • Thank you freddiemac for those words, its the integrity.

How can the ministers who withdrew live themselves ?

Or even the congregations too ?

Be honest J - had you known in time would you not have 'lifted' and now be 'looking on from the sidelines'.
