It will certainly do more good that doing nothing - there is a large number of local politicians who have signed it and that has made them more aware of the issue and the amount of support for this. These things can suddenly take on a momentum of their own. Make your friends/ colleagues aware and get them to sign up. Email your MLAs amd MPs and get them to ask questions in the Commons and Assembly.
You are taxpayers and will be paying to support all the main UK banks for many years to come. If the government is happy to take your taxes from N Ireland to support RBS and many other banks you dont have access to and never used they should send some back in the form of a guarantee for a 100% N Ireland financial institution. Doesnt seem right that you are bailing out RBS who lent £2.5billion to a Russian oligarch and subsequently wrote off the entire amount while N irelands own financial instiutions get nothing.
If you dont shout you wont be heard0 -
jon_groovy - why are you not setting up the other petition???????0

I am jon_groovy, done the no 10 thing. Which other petition is this?
Has anyone bounced this off the Beeb or UTV, I know they covered it before.
Wouldn't a follow up programme giving details of just how many people this has directly affected and the £amount of the 'badly invested' funds appeal and be of interest to local tv journalists and programme makers.0 -

Nomad25, I'm assuming that your are NOT also Jon-Groovy and that you just made a typing error at start of your post ???.....
The 'other' petition was one which was talked about at the start of January (see post #53) The wording and promotion of which was ORIGINALLY being discussed here.
I came accross the No.10 petition which had already been set up previously,(see post #155) but it is more 'general' than the type of one that was being discussed in this thread at the time.
Thanks to the wonderful reporting from the NEWSLETTER,(brought to our attention by crazymess in post #248) the petition was included on their web page and newspaper, and so the signing began(1700 to date).
Not sure what good it'll do-hopefully a lot -and it will certainly not do any harm, so, until an alternative petition is set up just keep on promoting it

It would make a change from Spartacus! :rotfl:"Our Society is one of the great successes of our Church"

When times are hard you find out who your friends are - DUP, UUP and The Newsletter - we salute you. The good Rev Mc Crea has just signed the petition. We just need to keep the pressure on to ensure that our politicians and press use their contacts to keep moving the questions and pressure up the political chain.
As per suggestions from other contributors you may wish to sent e mails to politicians. mama mias link to MLA e mail addresses

and to make life even easier a version of the e mail I have been sending which you can adapt to your hearts content.
"I write to ask you to continue to lobby the Labour government to provide a guarantee on funds held by the Presbyterian Mutual Society - to date this is the only financial institutution in the UK I am aware of which has been allowed to fail. The Presbyterian Mutual Society was not alone in over-investing in property but is alone in being deserted by government when they are most needed. As a taxpayer I find myself paying for the protection of all financial institutions other than the one linked to my family's savings.
Please continue to do all within your power to remedy the great wrong that is currently being done to thousands of innocent and trusting Presbyterian Mutual Society investors."
Will it help -I don't know. Do I feel better for trying - most definitely yes.0 -
