    REPLY

Thank you for your email which has been forwarded to An Taoiseach, Mr. Brian
Cowen T.D. for attention and direct reply.

    Regards.

    Mary

(Now that my cover has been more or less blown I may as well tell the people on this forum that when Brian Cowen's wife was a student, as a family friend, she acted as baby-sitter for my son-in-law. Shall be disappointed if we do not get a meeting.)

    Need some help
Can someone tell me the last time PCI said anything regarding the PMS crisis.
What date and what did they say, even better is there a link ?

Irish Times just tells me that the Moderator is still praying.

I understand all PMS Directors meetings opened and closed with prayer.

Clergy are praying whilst the PMS burns.

"By their works ye shall know them"

I am not sure what point you are making, especially in your final quotation.

The fact is that the church has spoken a number of times on the PMS crisis. The General Board passed important resolutions at its last meeting which I circulated to every minister in the church and asked them to publish to their members.

I wrote an article for the Newsletter on the anniversary of the PMS going into administration which was published in a major feature in the paper.

I have spoken on the radio on several occasions and my meetings with politicians have been extensively reported.

Yes, I am praying, but I don't believe that the PMS is burning. The Administrator will be able to confirm that currently the PMS resources are growing, not failing.

If you will identify yourself, I will be happy to speak to you personally to explain all these matters.

I also need to know something else, maybe betrayed could help ?

How were the directors selected ? Who first came up with a name of someome to join the board ? Who put them all together ?

I understand that members attending Annual General meetings approved the re-apppointment of retiring directors who wished to remain on the board.
Sad fact that few members attended these AGMs.
No doubt when a replacement was required people were approached in the grape vine to allow their names to go forward.

A solicitor friend of mine who was at the last AGM says that he was told lies, in answer to his questions, to the top table.
Remember there was a secretary and accountants there as well as the now much
    discredited directors.

When is the last time you posted anything constructive on this forum??

All you seem to be interested in is blaming the Moderator, PCI, Directors and criticising our clergy. The Moderator is doing all in his power to help. It is not his fault if he too is being let down by our politicans who have not adhered to promised dates. The Moderator has gained a lot of respect and is very pro-active. Loss of credibility - absolutely not. He has taken our plight on board and doing everything in his power to ensure a satisfactory resolution. He deserves credit not criticism!!

As for the Directors - if the British Government and DETINI had a proper regulatory framework in place this would never have happened yet you seem content to overlook that!!

I am sick listening to all this which is a a big turn off.

As for prayer - you might find you need it someday - do not knock it too!!

Belfast NewsLetter Sat 29 Nov 09

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Sammy Wilson has told the News Letter that a treasury minister accepted a Department of Finance proposal in July that the Treasury would provide a guarantee for any gap in finances for the PMS while its property portfolio recovered.

Has the administrator been told this. If he was aware of this in July
why has he not done something. Why wern't creditors told this.
Let us all lay off the clergy and directors and focus on the Administrator.
Could be that he does need direction from the High Court.

If you can believe him?? Funny A Foster or Mr Dodds made no mention of this!! following that meeting.
  • Some very interesting questions and points have been made in recent posts, and again they deal with two separate issues: (a) the struggle to get out money back and (b) what went wrong that allowed this problem to happen. I believe that each of those issues has merit, and again I plead for members of this forum to show some respect for each other. In particular, Hope, I would suggest that Jongroovy raises some valid questions with regard to the second issue. I understand you have little interest in pursuing the second issue at this time. However, I feel that some of Jongroovy’s questions ARE helpful, though I note you have questioned when he (she?) last posted anything constructive. On the other hand, though I have no reason to doubt the moderator’s good intentions, the fact is that most of Dr. Carson’s recent comments since June have brought no new information or imagination to this plight that concerns us. I had read most of his recent words and heard his comments on radio. He told the Irish Times, for example (Nov. 27), that the PCI has given strong pastoral support . Well, that’s the least we should expect. He said he “trusts, hopes and prays” for a solution. But then, why shouldn’t he? Again: the very least we should expect. He also says he shares our frustration. Not too helpful, that, and ultimately a self-serving remark. He seems to cloak himself in facile righteousness, and carefully avoids saying anything that would remotely suggest the PCI bore one iota of responsibility over the years that landed the PMS (and ourselves) where it did. The church at large has done nothing—nothing—to assist in actually organising savers through its presbyteries and congregations. The church’s own publication, the Presbyterian Herald, has been next to useless during the past year in providing any insight, or even a forum for savers. This is not to suggest that the PMS itself, and the government and/or its agencies don’t bear a substantial share of that responsibility as well. Hopefully, some day, once a solution is behind us, serious inquiries will provide us with some clear and detailed answers about why so many millions of pounds were lost. I am one of many, many savers who want answers. Jongroovy doesn’t stand alone (though, like Hope, I find his rants about ministers’ salaries a bit tiresome. Whatever merit that argument has, it’s certainly nothing to do with the two main issues.) Finally, besides our constant reminders to the many people who are working to solve this, let’s show some patience and understanding with one another. We’re all frustrated, and many of us continue to be angry, to say nothing of trying to cope with serious financial problems. Before you dispatch a post, why not reflect on whether it could provoke hurt? Instead, I suggest we should try to balance our concerns with some kindness.
