Don't take everything out on your Minister - you might have to ask him to do your funeral!!
Is it understandable in the present dilema that we are looking for some target for our wrath.
Clergy of our Church preach on a Sunday. They also are available to visit the sick. A lot of other visiting is expected to be done by Elders.
I know some country ministers who are paid £40,000 per annum. Most have a month of annual holidays.
Other work in the congregation is done by volunteers,
Treasurers, FWO secretaries, leaders of youth organisations.
In my part of the country it is customary that after a marriage or a funeral
the minister is handed a white envelope.:j
Little wonder that in this recession that there are over 50 students for the ministry attending Union College.
Is that true ? Some ministers of religion are paid up to 40k pa ?0 -
You could always take your case to the Supreme Court.
Oh, wait now...
Supreme Court is now doing the work of the House of Lords.
Can't get there until you have been through the High Court.
They only hear appeals.
First case they sat on found in favour of the bankers.
We could consider the European Court of Human Rights in Luxemburg.
Lisbon and previous European Treaties allows a citizen to take their Government to Court.0 -
Royalmail - Personally I do not care what the salary of ministers is. They are on call 24//7 - work long hours and some attend to as many as three congregations particulary in ROI as well as visiting the sick at home and in hospitals. Others work for very little. Irrevelant to our plight I'd say.0

Some ministers I know are paid more. Get the Annual Report of any of the Presbyterian Congregations in say Ballymena town, for example.
Only takes a short time to figure out what the ministers are costing the congregation.
I think ministers of PCI are 'self-employed'. Wonder why?0 -

And pesonally I don't care about you either, but as a complete outsider I am amazed that someone who works in such a profession that earns so much.
If ministers 'lived by faith' or had half that income, would they still feel as strong about recruiting people into the church ?0 -

Letter by a lobby group to An Taoiseach
Dear Mr Cowen,
Myself and others in the North are deeply concerned about the dilemma facing savers, many of them elderly, in the Presbyterian Mutual Society, now in Administration.
Only a small number of those affected are in your jurisdiction.
We feel that we are being let down both by the British Government and the N.I. Assembly. Thankfully there is cross party support in the North for a resolution but there are always matters being raised which are delaying it.
The administrator has around £30m in his coffers yet he has not found it possible to distribute any repayment of capital to shareholders and creditors for over a year.
Helping us in any way possible would benefit your fledgling party's establishment in the North.
Could you possibly yourself or someone you could delegate meet a small party of our lobbying group to discuss the matter as soon as possible.
We have met on different occasions before.
Barry Loughnane from Birr is my son-in-law.
Tomorrow's Irish Times is to feature an article on our plight.0
