NI Presbyterian mutual society, Short of funds for withdrawal?

Terribly selfish attitude. Whilst I accept that many are genuinely suffering because of the PMS mess, there are many people overseas being helped by PCI who are in much much worse situations than virtually all PMS investors...
D.A.
Thought you might reply with that -
I agree that the suffering overseas is very hard and sad - but really perhaps you are unaware of some of the serious suffering here at home! There are some folk becoming mentally ill over this whole affair - some indeed now inpatients in hospital, some unable to pay bills, some being taken to court, and some who have a much lower quality of life because of all of this.
Don't underestimate the pain and suffering this is causing here in NI - and of course don't forget those who have money in for work in the third world countries -
I am not being selfish - just realistic!
Remember if you sort the source of the problem out - then in turn we can help others - but surely you would agree there will be a lot less given to our Church now - for overseas work etc because of this.
Its okay for you to make comment - I understand from reading your previous posts you are not a saver with the PMS - if the financial inst you saved with collapsed - you had no income - how would you manage?0 -
Where would the PCI get a huge 'interest free' loan to be paid back over 50+ years??
Not the government - that's for sure!0 -

charity begins at home0 -
The following was dictated to me by Ian McGimpsey at the weekend. Apologies for not being able to post it before now – family commitments- but I understand this to be the wording of the advert, which appeared in the Presbyterian Herald in 1982 as referred to in the Newsletter article (see post no:1987) which goes on to later mention ''help their church''
IS MY MONEY SAFE GUARDED ?
YES
Each shareholder will be supplied with a certificate, signed by the director, together with a copy of the rules of the society.
The society will be accountable to the registrar by providing regular audited accounts…..
I also received the following email from the lobbying group referring to comments made on this forum…..
I note someone commented that they had written to lots of people and got no response. This is usual so they should not be disappointed or disheartened. Thes MP's etc receive literally thousands of letters each week and because you do not receive a reply it does not mean that they are not supportive. They tend to lobby among themselves, which is exactly what is happening at the highest of levels. Encourage them also to write to the Lords. We are advised that letters should be short and to the point ie no waffle otherwise they will not all be read. (remember always to include hardship etc.)
Right….I’m off to do some ironing !!!

The lobbying group received the following reply from Age Concern today.
I have been asked to put the information on the forum in case it could be of some help...
We appreciate that this must be a difficult time for all those affected. As an organisation however, we are not best placed to respond to issues of a financial nature as this falls outside our area of expertise.
You may however wish to contact the Consumer Council as financial matters fall under their remit. They can be contacted on 02890 672488.
In your e-mail you mentioned the fact that many older people have been left in hardship. Our advice service offers a full benefits check to maximise the incomes of older people and can advise on other entitlements such as help with health costs. A check can be given over the phone by calling 0808 808 7575.
I hope this information is helpful and wish you the best of luck in your campaign.0 -
Just a wee thank you joylikestoshop - for your secretarial services!!0

Thank you Crazymess,I dont mind stating for the record that tonight ''my wee head is pickled''.:grinheart
I've just been given a 'paper' copy of the letter to Presbyterys which I'd posted on here a few days ago.It had been available at the church my teenagers attend, but I was only handed the printed version about half an hour ago !!! Kids eh ...:wall:
There's a lot of info to digest, and if by some stoke of luck anyone reading it manages to track down this forum, then,
1) They deserve a medal for arriving here cos the 'link' to it is a bit vague.
2 ) HELLO ALL NEW COMERS :hello:
This ''thread''/blog/forum was started way back in November ( many thanks to Ballyblack ) when the news of the Presbyterian Mutual Society going into Administration was made public-
It is open to anyone to read/comment on/join.
We are a group of many individuals who are concerned about the current PMS situation.
No one here has any answers. We are all sharing worries, thoughts, information and ideas with one another.
Mostly it's the same few people posting information, and although not everyone reading this makes a comment, we know that this site is a great source of support and encouragement for many. :grouphug:
Occassionally some 'randomers' pop on to say something controvertial, but I think we're learning just to ignor them.:silenced:
So, once again, if you're just new to 'our' wee site WELL DONE for finding it, take your time to read as much as you can but don't go back too far or you'll only get confused, and feel free to sign up and join in,we're mostly a happy wee bunch (IMO)

Thanks for all your hard work typing up all the info from Mr McGimpsey.
A couple of the emails on the original list don't work, but the ones on the second list do (Frank Field and George Osborne), just small typing errors.
for Frank Field it should be hendeyj@parliament.uk
George is Osborne not Osbourne to find his website
Thanks again :T"Our Society is one of the great successes of our Church"

Thank you for your very hard work.
As for the EMails that don't work I sent a letter instead.

it is money from Congregations invested in the PCI "General Investment Fund" which cannot be accessed as it belongs to Congregations.
"We have received several substantial gifts and hope to invest these in the General Investment Fund of our church with the object of securing good income with reasonable capital appreciation."
I don't know if PMS did actually invest in PCI General Investment Fund, and whether or not PMS might still have funds there.
Note. It may be something to do with the "Presbyterian Mutual Charitable Trust" - I'm not sure.0
