How come none of us seemed to know about this in advance? How can it be a public meeting if the public are not informed about it?

Guarantee this was another sneaky PR exercise by HMG.

I think they kept it very low profile - but I bet their 'supporters', stormont ministers [who always have a vested interest] and anyone who wouldn't rock the boat [on any topic] and who was guaranteed to clap and not whistle
    was invited to attend!

Thanks to Bigcammy for posting details.

Just how much do they expect to get discussed in 45 minutes? Think what it must cost to bring these people here to face the public for less than an hour, hopeless.

Looks like you were able to get making your points: -

Several speakers appealed to the committee to help savers with the Presbyterian Mutual Society.
The society was forced into administration last year after a run on its funds. Members no longer have access to their funds and some face losing their life savings.
The former Presbyterian moderator the Reverend John Dunlop asked the committee to press the government to assist the society members describing it as "an acute human problem for individuals and congregations."
The committee made no promises but wished the members well and suggested they form an action group, possibly through the internet.

They would fork out quite happily, maybe from the taxpayer's money, it will be classed as a government project when it is a thinly disguised labour PR exercise.

First one done here because we don't matter to them and as a proving ground for the project, because they can c*ck it up and it's only NI [votes insignificant].

I'll be boring and repetitive - votes. Nothing to be gained for them!

Sorry, but it appears to me like they are telling PMS savers to work it out for themselves.

  • Well....that was interesting....

This is my first chance to get to the computer and it'll take me a while to type up everything, but briefly.....

About 40 people attended this mornings meeting.

People were there for a variety of difference financial reasons.

John Dunlop and Donald Watts were there...John spoke Donald didn't.

Two people brought up the issue of the PMS.

A priest- Father Tim Bartlett - also then offered his support to the people affected by the PMS before going on to speak on another matter.
AND I SPOKE  !!! One of the issues I raised was that PMS investors had no means of getting in touch with one another and asked if that was an area that the committee could advise/help with.It was at this point the issue of an 'online support group' was mentioned by John McFall. He said that it was an area that he and the committee had some experience and to 'get in touch' to see if they could offer some help.

I will type up a fuller report and post it later, and I will also get back to everyone who text, emailed and PM'd me. Thanks for all the support.
