I have a TTG720 and use a Brodit Clip for the TTG720 and one of their specific Car Adapters that clips into the Dash, and have it situated in the middle of the Car. Therefore no falling off the Windscreen and no marks to worry about.
    Cheers

  • Garmins have a`suction lever.!....... sticks like glue
  • I always wondered if it was only me that had this problem. It's happened so many times now I tell people to expect it when getting in the car and most times I catch it now. All very impressive but I do wish it wouldn't happen. I'll give cleaning the screen and suction a go and pressing it firmly in the centre of the round suction bit as suggested above.

Much better to get a brodit adapter like sjc, or if you're a cheapskate like me bodge your own. If you mount it on the dashboard its easier to reach and operate and no telltale marks on the screen.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I have a TomTom Go 500 (had it 4 years so it virtually has whiskers on it now), with the goose neck mount kit, because the original mount that came with it was so crap that the plastic holding the suction cup to the rest of the mount kept snapping and needing a replacement mount.

The only time I have a problem with it not sticking to the screen is when I haven't had the TomTom on it for a while - the mount stays on the screen all the time - and it must loosen a little so when the weight of the TomTom goes back on it tends to drop off after about 15 minutes' driving. A couple of times I have had to dive across to catch it after noticing out of the corner of my eye that it is just starting to drop...

Is it not a touch of paranoia to remove the mount and clean the screen everytime you leave the car? My mount has been on the screen non-stop for 4 years and nobody's ever broken in just in case the TomTom might be in the glovebox (where it wouldn't fit anyway). Any sat nav thief with half a brain though would know that it's an old model and probably wouldn't be interested.

If you're cleaning the suction mark off make sure you clean the whole screen every time you leave the car, otherwise the bit where you've rubbed the mark off might be a little bit cleaner than the rest of the screen, and that could possibly be a clue that you may possibly own some kind of sat nav! ;)

I have an earlier TT one with the big black plastic suction mount. I find that in colder weather, the actual sucker material gets harder and then it tends to fall off. If i warm it up under a hot tap or on the heater of the car,it softens it and it can then be rmounted and all is well again.
  • clean the part of the windscreen u wish to place the suction cup on and then apply a bit of water on the surface of the cup and hey presto - it sucks onto your windscreen.

if your a filthy like me, u can use saliva for suction

Has no-one heard of blu-tack? I have a Tomtom One (the fat one) and it gets bounced between a Vecra and an old Micra. With a nice flat piece of Blu-tack underneath it and a lump on top too, it jams securely between windscreen and dash with no clunky holder needed. Plus for security, when you remove it the Blu-tack stays stuck conveniently to Tomtom and no tell-tale holder remains. We reposition the top piece of Blu-tack as each car has different geometry. Been using this system for may years summer & winter, excellent!

I read somwhere about someone using vaseline to stick it, supposed to give greater suction...Prob spend more time cleaning the screen tho.
