Yes she's honest that's how my wife and brought her up. However the response to her honesty will not, I'm sure, encourage her to be quite so honest in the future and I think that's a shame.
Her elder brother called her a mug. Some might say he was right given the circumstances.
This is why I am so angry about the whole thing.0 -

I do agree, but the story isn't over yet.
I think that if you persevere, and get your letter read by the appropriate manager, she will eventually get an apology.0 -

I can understand why you are upset, you shouldn`t be penalized for being honest. I`ve often found a letter to your MP works when all else fails0 -
Post 11 is all you need OP, follow Voyagers advice.
Let us know how you get on.0 -
I have now had a letter from Passenger focus stating they are treating my compalint as an 'appeals complaint' and that I can expect a reply by 1.01.2009!
I don't think leaving the penalty unpaid till then is a very good idea so I have decided to pay it under protest and without prejudice with a further letter to the train company management asking them to reconsider.
I'm not hopeful.
The whole thing feels like legalised theft.0 -

Eh?
You're not allowed to travel without a ticket. On rare occasion when my ticket has expired, and I've forgot to do it, and I have to queue up in the morning, that's what I do.
Soon enough you learn to buy your ticket in advance.
This is one of those strict liability things - if you don't have a ticket, for whatever reason, you're liable. You can ask the inspector nicely and they might let you off, but if they don't, you're out of luck. So you've absolutely no right to call it legalised theft. The only time you can get away with not buying a ticket is when the station isn't manned
I've missed plenty of trains due to being in a queue to buy a ticket. It's just life. Soon enough you learn to0 -

I suggest you read the whole thread and do some research on the stations, rail company, and situation concerned, as your post shows that you have jumped in without knowing anything whatsoever.0 -
Given that Newhaven Harbour, Bishopstone and Southease are unstaffed halts with no ticket machine then they can't really be penalty fare stations.
Newhaven Town OTH has a ticket office, albeit part time.0
