    What's so funny about that?

I DO own the freehold - I own the land my house is built on. And I also own my garden (and that's big too):money:

    Every one's a coconut.:D

Well, don't say my name etc on the forum, please, but I know you know I'm a barrister (-:

Quite right too - given the obsessively personal behaviour of a couple of the more creepy regulars here the less personal info anyone posts, the better.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

That's strange, in my text: "You can judge whether people are telling the truth on forums by the amount of accurate and consistent information they supply. In pickledpink's case I reserve judgement until more information is supplied."........

NDG, I shouldn't worry about what PP thinks, one usually finds in life that those who are the least trusting are also the least trustworthy. In other words, PP is a liar and thinks everyone else is too.

When I trid to give out less my information appeared inconsistant. Truth is I've had work in lots of differntsectors and lived in lots of places. The experinces are not consistant, (lif often isn't IME)thus its easier to say why I've arrived at where I have, in brief.

Also with reference to consistancy, I have a few blank years where lots of 'my memory' is made up of a lot received information and hazy recollection! That's an odd feling because you have to try and think about the person you were then, not now, to think about how it impacted on your choices. somtimes when I am contributing I persue a lin of thought I'm dbaing with myslf, so appear to fall heavily on a side I might not in the end fall to, and sometimes on lies by obmission, but anythin I actually SAY is true, but fels not right without th background to me.:o

We can't know any one is 'truthful' or 'liars' really, buthow different from real life is that really. I don't really care, TBH, I just hop people ar truthful and yet don't swallow it hook, line and sinker anyway.:o

Good to see you're not materialistic! One wonders why you're on here actually?:money:

I like things money buys, who said I didn't? I just don't value people by how much they have:confused: I actually have quite expensive tastes, but I'm happy to go without a lot of things of less value to me to enjoy spending the mony I do spend on things that add to my quality of life. By cutting down on what I consider unnecessary things I'm able to have a pretty good quality of life for me. (which would possibly be awful for other people).

Like you I don't think half a million is a lot of money for a house in the SE, but I do recognise to many its a huge sum. I don't think if you live in a modest house worth half a million in th SE you are of more value than someon who lives in th same type house in the north worth less, for example.

I also don't make the assumption that bcause half million pounds for a house dosn't sem a lot to me, in the schem of things, that my background is 'better' than anyon else here. As it happens, my fathr lives in a 'freehold' house in on of the most expensive areas of London with no mortgage, and my parents real home is a cottage in the country, DH father owns 5 homes in various places he has lived, but on is th most expensive, its the appartmnt he lives in in NYC with his wife, so not frehold (I think, I don't know much american proprty law). Despit it being 'worth' sveral times half a million I don't think that makes him better than someon living in a half million pound house with no mortgage, or my parnts whose finacial 'worth' is undoubtably less.

  • Thank god for that, finally MSE users have found someone else to ostracise instead of me. lol

Just to add my ten-penneth, I dont think house prices undr the £125,000 mark are really affected at all. I bought my house a few months ago for £100,000, had to have it valued in July for re-mortgage, and it was valued at £115,000 (not done a lot of work, just double glazing and a bit of tidying up). The house a few doors away (pretty much the same, 2 bed terrace same size) has just sold for £112,000 - and yet by rights, if my house has dropped 10% in value that would mean its should be worth about £90,000 right? And if values were to drop 60% as someone has said, youre not seriously suggesting my house would be worth £40,000? lol

My house is a tiny mews cottage near Lancaster, in the catchment area for the Royal Grammar school and on same street as top performing state primary school, as well as being accesible to M6. I think these factors, combined with an already affordable FTB house will prevent houses similar to mine losing value, except maybe a couple of grand - certainly not on the scale being mooted.

What did you get Ostr******* for?

Very thinly veiled "I'm considerably richer than you" thread IMHO

Although in reality she lives in a grubby caravan park. :rotfl:

I have a good idea. To stop PP's endless rants about me lying about being a barrister, etc. I've PM-ed generali a link to my profile in Chambers, my Dad's profile in Chambers, and OH's profile in Chambers (not the same ones).

He, if he's happy to do so, can confirm that we are all barristers. That might stop PP's invective against me - some of it, anyway.

Aww come on NDG you do not have to do that!
