I've burned myself too many times to not have oven mitts around. I usually have extras so that I can wash them regularly, although ATM I only have one! Guess that's one thing to pick up in the post-Xmas sales.

I have one of the Tesco knock-off dutch ovens, and it's fine so far. I also have an Ikea cast iron skillet and it is great. TBH the cast iron pots, when full, are so heavy that I don't think I will bother getting a larger one--anything I want to cook in the oven in a big casserole goes in the much lighter glass dish, or else in the slow cooker. My mom has a huge cast aluminum dutch oven that I think was my grandma's, and while it has a lot of the same properties that make the cast iron pots useful it is a lot easier to manipulate!

I am very excited as I just bagged myself a bargainous 28cm le creuset from amazon at less than £50 to add to my collection :D It holds 6.7litres so :j:j
bit of a rubbish colour but hey-its SO cheap :D
I already have a 24cm, a small one and a cast iron grill pan, and I found recently that my 24cm one was getting rather full and overflowing when I made a MONSTER chilli.
I use them all the time on my ceramic hob, and they are fine. The only problem I have (slight problem, not major) is because ceramic hob, cannot use a heat diffuser as I used to on the gas hob, so even on the lowest setting it tends to bubble quite vigorously.
I can't wait for it to arrive. Can't decide between making a vat of chilli or a great big pot roast chicken! :T:T

I've just been looking at those, well the sets which are about £71 reduced from £181! However I don't really need them.

I already have a large oval one and a 28cm round one which I got for a wedding present 8 years ago, and I have a flat griddle pan which I think I got in a £1 auction box, a large frying pan (which hurts my wrists carrying it so I don't use it much) and a small frying pan which is find for eggs from MIL as she didn't need them.

Although I would like a smaller casserole one, but then I'd want it to match the blue ones I've got :rotfl:

Bah I don't need one do I! The bean pots look interesting as well....
Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

SPC2 #571 - trying to get as much as possible
  • I bought a set of LC pans as a bottom drawer about 30 years ago - never did marry that chap - married another one - but the pans have lasted longer than both of them and are still going strong!! Aldi had a 'fake' LC casserole a few weeks ago for just under £30 bought one of those - brill. Also have some fake LC casseroles I bought in France, also still going strong. I have bad hands now, but no way am I giving these up.

I have a small orange one which I "borrowed" from my mum when I went to college over 12 years ago, I think my parents bought it soon after they got married, so thats over 30 years ago. It gets frequent use, but is quite little compared to my others so it tends to get used for pasta sauce or hotpots for two of us :)
My 24cm and griddle pan I bought about 5 years ago, and it is quite possibly one of my best buys ever. I think they are great :D

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I have an orange casserole dish (large) which was a wedding present 38 years ago, and is used regularly! Then DS bought us an even bigger black round one two years ago when he was cooking for a large party here...fabulous, but doesn't get used too often as I rarely cook for that many! But the quality is fantastic! Bet both pots will outlast me easily!
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!

Further to my post a bit earlier, I've gone and ordered it :) Cast iron and stoneware set in blue, reduced from £230 to £115!

Hubby will still probably winge about it, but I don't care!

Hopefully it will be here in time for the weekend .. can't wait :T

I never tell mine the cost of my good pans and things, he just doesn't understand:rolleyes:

    Oh dear!!!

 I wish I not read this thread as I love Le Creuset!! I have several in different colours ranging from 18cm up to 30cm shallow casserole and of course I caved in to this offer on amazon as it was too good a price to miss at £48 for 28cm! Even a 25cm was at £51 on ebay at this point.

Right this is the last one for me until my non stick grill pan gives up the ghost and my non stick tefal pans also give up and are almost certainly to be replaced by the Le Creuset masters. :D

The casseroles are fantastic - the best things I have ever used and I can't ever imagine them getting past their best.:j

 Oh dear.......need to find some room now to store this...better clean the cellar out!!!
