I want a le creuset style hob to oven big stew pot.

  • Another fan here. I have the big £100 quid one - perfect for dishes you want to hold at a low steady temperature for a long time. I don't put it in the oven much - mainly use for stuff like casseroles and soups on the hob. I stewed some fruit in it the other day and didn't want it going down to mush - was perfect.

    I want the bigest one because [STRIKE]we are greedy[/STRIKE], because you can always cook less in a bigger one, but not more in a smaller one:D

    My Le Creuset saucepans & frying pan are one one of the best investments I ever made. I bought them from Amazon and they were reduced to about £90. They are fantastic and clean up brilliantly.

    I bought an oven casserole dish recently off Amazon as well...I think it was half price at about £57 (it's blue) and, again, I love it. Perfect for my favourite curries which I start on the hob and then chuck in the oven to finish off.
  • I saw some imitations ones in my nearest morrisons, can't remember the size but they were appx £15. It said they were cast iron and for hob and oven and they looked like the original thing, i think !!!

    I've owned a number of cast iron enamelled pans for some years now and find them all to be very good. Le Cruset don't stand out as lasting longer, cooking better or being easier to clean than the others. The only difference I can tell is that the le cruset range is better, they come in more sizes and shapes, which means you might be in luck if you want a special item, and that they're stocked in more places. They also cost a lot more.

    Unless they were on a good offer or I needed a specific item only they made, I wouldn't normally buy le cruset because of the great difference in price.

    We have 4 - 2 large & 2 small casserole pots with lids.....paid £8 for the lot at a car boot in 2000 (haggled down from £10!), they are always admired when visitors come into our kitchen and I wouldn't be parted from them (DS2 thought he'd get one when he went to uni - I soon put him straight on that idea!)

    I had a dreadful accident at the weekend and broke my beloved large rectangle stoneware dish :cry:

    I'd put the oven on and not noticed that a baking sheet had slipped down the back and was lodged behind the flame directing all the heat toward the shelf where my dish was, roasting some veggies. Once I'd realised what had happened (smell of burning and smoke coming from oven :o ) I got the dish out and a large chunk on one edge has snapped off, presumably as it got just too hot :(

    Is there anything I could use to fix it that would stand up to being used again or is it destined for the bin now? :eek:

    Just to add that I use both LC and Chasseur cast iron casseroles and to be honest I think they are both equally as good.
