For anyone wanting a large casserole at a low price have a look in Aldi .
My local one still has stocks of good quality heavyweight cast aluminium casseroles in various sizes and styles all with good quality none stick coatings . The largest one was only about £16.

I couldn't manage without my Le Creuset casserole dish, I did a search earlier because I want a frying pan and found a four piece set for half price on this site, the offer is in a box at the bottom of the page. I'll be treating myself to it for Christmas I think!0

Debenhams sell them and we've got a 25% off voucher this weekend!!!!! :j
love mine wouldn't be without it....Well behaved women rarely make history.0 -
Another fan here. My Mum bought me the large casserole dish for my birthday a few years ago and I use it all the time.
There's only me and DS in the house nowadays but it cooks small amounts just fine and if and when we entertain, I can cook plenty extra.
I did have one of the frying pans and hated it. It was far too heavy for me to be useable - I think you need to manipulate a frying pan more when cooking than with a casserole dish and the non stick starting flaking off in the end too.0 -
Further to my post a bit earlier, I've gone and ordered it
Cast iron and stoneware set in blue, reduced from £230 to £115!
Hubby will still probably winge about it, but I don't care!
Hopefully it will be here in time for the weekend .. can't wait :T0 -
I think Le Creuset cast-iron is mainly for the fit and strong! Where my brother works they cook their own meals on certain shifts and he tells me they have loads of Le Creuset that has been pensioned off from homes because they are so heavy.
As for where to buy it: TKMaxx definitely have items of stoneware from time to time. I have recently bought a utensil jar and one of those little heart-shaped dishes wih a lid (I use it for sugar in the kitchen). I'm not sure whether they do the cast iron stuff as well.0 -
I have seen cooking stuff in TK Maxx - usually in pale pink (which I'm guessing is a discontinued range) but sometimes in almond.

I've had one of those big orange Le Creuset ones for 40 years and it's still going strong, although the inside is now a little discoloured. I wouldn't be without it but what doesn't seem to be a weight issue when you're younger is more of a problem as you grow older if you develop arthritis in hands or wrists. If you're worried about this happening perhaps a really expensive good quality steel pan with a lid might be another alternative.0

I'm only worried about the weight because when they are red hot & very heavy they become a danger.......
Perhaps its time to get proper oven gloves, I always think they are dirty things.....
Anyone used them silicone alternatives?
Would they ever cover enough of the hand area to lift these heavypots?
They always seem to be like a little finger guard.0 -
I want one of these, a stewpot but was put off by the price. I saw one in TKMax for £29.99 and made the mistake of not buying it straight away, when I went back it had gone. I notice Tesco have similar pots and pans which look the same at about half the price. Anyone tried these, I am keeping my eye out at TKMax but did consider trying the Tesco one. Sometimes we pay over the odds for the name but if it worth it then I would give it a try.0
