OpenOffice V Microsoft Office

I currently have Microsoft Office 2003 installed and am loathe to update to the 2007 version (mainly because of cost).
Will the latest version of OpenOffice do the same things as Microsoft Office?
I'm fairly sure the two are compatible (from what I've read on here anyway!).

why bother "updating" if you are happy with '03?

It ain't broke but apparently OpenOffice is smaller, faster, better, etc.
Anyone any comments on that bit?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

I would just stick with Office 2003 and install the Office 2007 compatibility pack, you can use Open Office and just save the documents in the office formats and they are compatible with Office.0

openoffice is a very good alternative to MSoffice, in the same way as saccharin is an alternative to sugar, it has many benefits, and is, in many ways similar, but it is not sugarUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Think I'll run them side-by-side for a short while and see which I prefer.
