has anyone else heard back from Kaupthing regarding their complaint?

i've just received a letter basically saying the same as the email they sent and that there is nothing they can do. looks like it will have to go to the FOS!!

    Exactly the same here.

I am going to write to ING as well. Whilst I expect the result to be the same, I can't quite work out who the complaint ought to be against - ING were the bank at the time I tried to open the FTD.

i'd be up for that or maybe there already is such as thing......see the link a few posts back?

I have seen the link but it is not a collective action. What I meant by "collective" is one voice for 2300. Sound maybe stupid but it could be helpful in this situation.

As for who to complain to after kaupthing, if you have a negative response from kaupthing on the phone by email or letter you can already contact Financial Ombudsman service and they will find who to complain to.

I sent a written complaint to both KE administrators and ING. I got the KE holding letter saying they would need 8 weeks to reply to me. They replied in about 3. As somebody has said before they did not address my points to the lack of notice on their website and gave me the same load of codsallop their email gave. However KE have left in 10,000 of my money in a FTD opened ON THE 8/10/08. i CAN ONLY THINK THIS WAS BEFORE THE 13;30 DEADLINE. The other 15k was dumped into the current account. Anyway their letter does make me think that the Administrators are just saying that after the 8/10/08 its not our problem its INGs. Therefore I hold ING responsible to what Happened after the 8/10/08 as KE was theirs. This is what I have put in the letter. I have had no response from ING yet in 3 weeks. I will phone them to make sure they have my letter. I will be going to the FSO but only when I get a reply from ING and I can submit both responses to the FSO. I am also thinking about the FSA as KE/ING advertising of the FTD was misleading (Complaints to FSA are limited by certain factors). My only thoughts now are do I move my money out of KE or do I leave it in and hope ING change their mind?? hmmmmm

ING are not going to change their mind. They're currently smarting from a 0.9% cap on their mortgage side, so they're not going to be giving money away.

Maybe not but you need a deadlock letter to take it further.
  • Right, as stated before I phoned Ing today to see how my letter was getting on. ING seemed to be taken a back by how to handle my complaint. After speaking to a nice lady help person (and having to explain the whole thing to her as she seemed not to have heard of this problem) she went to talk to her supervisor. She came back and said that any letters of complaint have to go to KE. I stated I had done that and had a shambolic response from Administrators. It did not answer my many points on the lack of communication for 5 weeks while FTD were being fixed by customers after the take over, updating of info banners (or lack of it) etc etc. I stated I was phoning to see how my complaint letter to ING (not KE) was going. She seemed not to be able to answer my question. I then asked to talk to the supervsior. All he could say was as ING do not have any details of KE ciustomers on their computers they cannot assign my complaint to my account. Therefore my letter would "probably" be handed to KE to be dealt with. That set me right off. I said the letter of compliant was to ING and their conduct as onwers of KE and of my account. I wanted the complaint response to deal with specific ING issues I had with how they have handled all this. They finally seem to get I was not giving up. The supervisor took my name/ account number and said he would have to talk to ING reading to see where my letter was and then they would call me back to let me know how they would handle it. So I will wait to see what happens. I told ING 3 of their 8 weeks had passed to respond. I wanted to know what they were going to do as do I go to FOS now or give ING a chance to answer. lets see if they find my letter. ING do not seem to know what to do with complaints from KE!!! I would advise everyone to check up on any letters they have sent to ING to see if they are being handled correctly. Do not be fobbed off with "its a KE issue".
  • As I am on holiday travelling in Australia/NZ and cannot easily communicate with ING Direct by phone or by post, I emailed the Financial Ombudsman Service six days ago and received back an automated response that I thought was reasonably helpful.

I asked in my email for advice on who I should complain to because several parties seem to be involved. The FOS website does say

"But if you don't know who to complain to at the business or you're unsure about anything, get in touch with us. We will contact the right person for you, telling them that you have a complaint that they need to look into."

So, I am hoping for some independent advice on what to do next. The FOS automated email says

"(2) We can send details of your complaint to the business on your behalf – if you send us a completed complaint form telling us the relevant details. Our complaint form is on our website at the web address above. Or you can phone us directly on 0845 080 1800 (office hours) to give us details of your complaint – which we can forward to the business for you."

..... so I may well take that route too. At least using that method the complaint should be directed to the correct party which I think will turn out to be ING Direct. We shall see.

Maybe we should all fill in a FOS complaint form and let them forward it to the business on our behalf, which is the nearest approach I can think of to effective collective action.

Guys, for the collective action (agreed, it is not collective in the sense that this is 1 letter from 2300 people, but that is very difficult to co-ordinate so think it would be best if all send the same letter), take a look at:
    http://www.ingsavers.co.uk/
There is a standard letter and lists of where to complain to.

Also, the complaint should be definitely against ING as they were the bank that was in charge when we opened our account and they just try to move the blame away.

    Hi everyone

I've put my complaint in with FOS regarding this matter. They initally said go to the FSCS but FSCS said go to the FOS. (hence my delay!)

Today I tried to login to Kaupthing however and was told I could only view my account if I accepted new terms and conditions relating to the FTD interest rate. I was suspicious as to what the new terms were saying (it was several pages). Can anyone advise on this? Think the Kaupthing deposit is being transfered to ING this weekend. Want to pull my money out asap.
