Digital Photo Frame Which One?

I am getting very confused there are so very many digital photo frames, what should it absolutely have? Is it the resolution, the in built memory? the inbuilt battery? a remote control? What? Some play MP3,music videos, OMG help me:rolleyes:
Went to Currys today and all he kept going on about was that the frame had 3 interchangeable covers, when I pointed out to him that was neither here nor there and it is more important what it does etc he seemed bemused by that and kept going on about the frames again:rolleyes: :D
They range from £29.99 to the one I saw today at £149.99:eek: that one was wii and you could get news, etc on the digital frame, appreciate you get what you pay for as in everything but I just want the photos to rotate be on a wall, slide show expand to the screen, why are there so many? maybe the wii is not such a bad idea can you take it abroad and put my mums photos on it?
Is it best to buy one with a usb cable or one that can do it straight from pc to frame without it? Is it best to buy a well know named brand or will the ones they sell at Makro be just as good apart from the fact no one has ever heard of them or Aldi sell them also but never heard of the makes either.
THanks

Most of the cheap ones have low resoloution 480x234 , you want at least 800x600 otherwise pics will look blocky and pixilated

There is one at Jessops at the moment for £52.49 using discount code, has internal memory and clock, also plays movies

  • im looking for one to send to my dad in Oz too, came accross a 10 inch high def widescreen one for 61.97, using 25% off code brings it down to 46.47 plus 3% cashback with quidco.

that is on the jessops website too.
    is officially a GLEEK

HI, what memory card type does your camera have??? the cheaper frames only take sd cards usually but the pricier ones take things like sony memory stick pro and xd cards.

The dearer ones will also have either a battery backup and some are even sola powered.

Kodak did a really good deal earlier on in the year, but i have to agree jessops do seem to be the best value at the mo

  • Thanks OP for asking this question! I was about to ask the same as I want to get one for DH for Xmas., and as you say, there are so many about that it gets confusing for a 'non-techie' person like me (I'm impressed with myself when I manage to download my photo's off the card to the PC!!!!!!!).

PC Pro have just reviewed 5 of the top ones in this months edition (Jan 2009), p.94. They pick the Sony S-Frame DPF-V700 at £129 as the best, then the Philips Digital Photoframe 10FF3CME at £170, then in third the the Hitachi HDF-7802 at £80. They give a poor review to frames by Agfa and Kodak. Worth a read.
  • I am looking at buying one of these and hoped someone could answer a couple of questions for me. I didn't want to spend too much money about £40.

The people I am buying them for don't own computers. Will I be able to transfer pics from my computer to store on its memory card.

I have some really old photos I would like to try and transfer to it. Would I be able to scan them into my computer and then transfer them to the memory card that they use.

As you can tell I don't know anything about these. Thanks

In currys they just took delivery off a wifi one but it was £149.99:eek: a kodax one, he said you could get the news etc on the screen and it was the selling point that everything off the internet could be displayed on the digital photo frame screen so google currys and put in kodax and review it, see what you think, very pricy I reckon because there are loads cheaper than that one:rolleyes:

or leave out the 'currys' bit and google will come up with quite a few links. Near the top is a wifi frame from play.com priced at 50 quid. I am sure if you spent a bit of time looking there will be others out there which may be cheaper and better.
