Arghhhhhhh Southern Electric.

OMG I am very upset at the moment I have just watched Watchdog and suprise suprise Southern Electric was on.

I am now locked into a contract with them after there sales woment told me that my bills would be £40.00 a month for both Gas and Electric. I recently decided that I did not want another direct debit going through my account so asked for token meters.

What a wise move I made, it turns out my bills are way over £123 a month and the electric is not even for a month.

I do not know what I am going to do, I am going Citizens advise soon so will ask them what to do.

But Be warned this company are miss selling many people especially people that are vunerable, I am a lone parent on benefits.

  • But who was your supplier before they took you over? How much were your bills with them? Your electricity usage would not have suddenly jumped up as soon as you changed to se. So surely you must have had an idea of your previous bills, therefore know that £40 wasn't correct?
  • Also £123 is very high. How many rooms does your house have, what kind of heating do you have? How many people live there, are you in all day or out at work? just trying to get an idea on your usage

Hi I was with British Gas before, and they wanted £80 a month for electric. I live in a 3 bedroom house with gas centeral heating. The gas is only used for heating and hot water, and electric I try to use as little as possible nothing is left on stand by. I also have energy saving lighbulbs in all socketts.

Something seems very wrong with your electric bill then!

We live in a 3 bed semi, I use a fair amount of electric as I have a few PC's on 24/7 and under floor heating in one room as well as aircon in another room that runs in the summer. Our electric is £60 a month DD over the year, and our gas is £33 a month!!!

I think I would be asking for them to check the meter if it were me!

I am defo going to citizens advice and going to ask them to help me sort this out. I am glad that I canceled my direct debit with them now, gawd knows what would have happened. They are expecting to take huge amounts off my token meters each week for debt. I think it was £5 elecky debt and £10 Gas I had to post them proof of benefits but not heard nowt yet.

Worst still they have not sent me a token key and the elecky meter only has £5 left on.

The electricity meters usually have a £5 emergency credit when you run out! You are aware that having a meter is the most expensive way to buy electricity and gas??? MUCH more expensive than a normal supply, even if you just request a quarterly bill instead of a direct debit.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Yes but I figured it would be an easier way for me to pay my bill. I was getting confused with everything coming out of my account.

  • If you've got the time to do it, use uswitch.

As for the SaS, they tried it out on Freda. My response was I pay the lecky, what authority did they have to even consider putting me on a higher tarrif.
(£50 of M&S Vouchers, a write off and back to my previous sorted out the spotted moldoon who tried it on)

Thanks Freddie-snowbits I am going to be getting on to the company 2moz and asking why it is so high. They should have recieved my proof of benefits by now and I want to know why I was promised 1 price then this dramitcally shoot up.

I know that tokens are more money but I can managed more better if I am on tokens. I get very confused when too much comes out of my bank account. Its a good job I choos this option though as it would have been over £240 they would have taken out of my account omg!!!!!!!!!!

  • but if your previous bills with your last supplier were £80, then did you not think £40 was a far too low? Did you not question that at the time?
