    Morning all,

    Emmenelle, welcome!
Snowy, I was glad to hear that Dylan left you a ‘present’ yesterday. Your posts always make me smile.
Taplady, I hope you enjoy having your ds home again, but I hope he finds something else soon too. xx
VickyA, Hugs for you and your mum…I only read about what you’re going through last night.
Meanmarie, I’m glad yesterday went ok for you. Belated birthday wishes to Ulick.

Just a quickie before I head off to the airport to collect dd. I can’t wait to see her! One of the things that worried us about her going to uni on mainland UK was the cost of travelling…but the strange thing is that with cheap flights she’s able to travel home for very little compared to her friends who have to pay for trains and buses.

In honour of her coming home the house is spotless. Not that she’ll notice, but it made me feel better to do it. She’s a pasta junkie so I’m hoping to make one of her favourites, Delia’s minestrone soup for tea. I’ll need to stop off to buy some courgettes on the way home but I think I have everything else that I need, including (sorry, boasting proud moment) home grown leeks, so I won’t be blowing the store cupboard challenge. I’ll make some bread and if I have time, an apple pie too.

I’m back to work this evening and not looking forward to it because on the weeks I’m working, Old Style stuff becomes a chore rather than something I enjoy. I don’t know how those of you who work full time manage. Hats off to you!

Anyway, got to go, hope you all have a good day.

Good morning all. Awful weather through the night - high winds and lashing rain. It's just raining here now.

Dinner tonight is the spaghetti carbonara we should have had on Saturday but DH brought fish and chips home with him instead.

Today I'm giving the house a good clean through because I am back at work on Thursday. I need to get as organised as possible which includes getting some Christmas presents wrapped up this week. I still haven't worked out how I'm going to do my own work now. There's always the evenings but that's if I can stay awake!

(((Hugs))) to everyone who is worried or unwell. Haven't had time to read the threads for the last couple of days.

    Welcome to the newbies!

    Morning everyone,

It's been really windy over here today as well. DGS woke up at 5.30am this morning, climbed into my bed and talked my ear off until 6.45am  :D He left around 9am and I've had a really busy day. Cleaned the house, washed more windows & screens, ironed & mowed 3/4 of the yard. I then ran out of steam. :o I'll finish it off tomorrow.

I've got DGS the next four days & nights so my posting will be a bit spasmodic. Off to grocery shop in the morning. Bitumen is getting laid tomorrow on the edges of our new road. It will then be finished. Amen. :D

Meanmarie Belated birthday wishes to Ulick. :kisses:
Emmenelle  & seraphina welcome back.
CM I haven't seen Sour Puss so Version 4 could be right. ;) Love your new Avatar for the occasion. Lest we forget.
Pink Have a great week with DD.
Ruby How maddening. Happened to me years ago when I shopping in the supermarket. There was a few of us that were greeted with their handiwork.

Well think I"ll have an early night. Hope you all have a happy day. <hugs> to those not well or down. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Morning all.

Driving my desk again today. Managed to get loads of things listed on e-bay over the weekend, I'm trying to pay for all Christmas presents with the funds from my sales, so wish me luck.

Tea is beef from last nights dinner, I also reckon there is enough for tea on Tuesday, but OH disagrees. She wasn't in the best of moods anyway as she received a letter saying her DLA tribunal had been postponed, again.

Good morning, long post since I've not posted in months...
I'm exhaused after yesterdays cooking marathon
Not getting enough 'good' food and finding myself constantly looking at expensive options instead (ready meal junkie here...) even though when I'm in a rush it takes longer to pop down the road, buy something that takes five minutes and get back than it does to cook from scratch. Everyone must know the lazyness feeling!
So yesterday I made a trip to Mr T and bought all things good for me. Took an hour to get a small trolley thanks to sunday shoppers and about three to cook everything.
    - Stuck some organic UHT milk in the yogurt maker with a drop of yogurt. Instead of wasting the spare yogurt I froze it - hopefully it'll still make a starter for next time.
    - plenty of fresh fruit, chopped up into portions and frozen on baking paper, bagged so I just need a handful of each to make smoothies/lollies etc
    - Bulk lot of spag bog from 1 kg of lean steak mince bulked with lentils. Once ready I halved it to make a chilli (just add canned kidney beans, cumin and chilli powder and a few chopped veg). Took 1/3 of remaining spag bog, put in glass tray and added a few drops of lea and perries, layered with sliced cooked potato and then frozen. Then added grated cheese for a sort of potato bake. Not sure it has a name...
    - Buy two packs of organic free range chicken thighs for £5! So used four of the six bits in an Italian Chicken Stew. Ingredients included fresh tomatoes from our allotment, onions, garlic, passata sauce (UHT in Tescos, no, that's not a mispelling), lentils again, chickpeas, couple of half priced peppers, chopped tomatoes, pepper, mushrooms, mixed herbs, couple of veg stock cubes!
    - roast meal for the evening - other two chicken portions wrapped in streaky bacon, potato & carrot from the allotment (it was a god amongst carrots, a mere 1 ft long!) yorkshire puds - my first attempt, but I don't think I'll use veg oil again, it stank!) and stuffing!
Ended up with 7 pots of yogurt, 6 portions of italian chicken stew, six of chilli, four of spag bog, 2 of potato bake and many smoothies and fruity things for desert (as well as a roast dinner for myself) - 18 potential meals!
Tonight I intend to use my 17p lolly maker (from Mr T a year ago) to make blueberry yogurt lollies.
I've found that making '1 portion' amounts of stuff makes my dieting a little easier - I'm also pretty sure I've overfilled the bags - perhaps I'll get two portions out of them if I put extra veg on the plate.
I've still got loads of mushrooms left and there were pataks curry sauces on offer (I'm not a ready made sauce kind of person, but at 50p a bottle I got four).
Next project: red onion marmalade, curry queens curry sauce & tarka dhal.
    Tim
  • Tim you're an inspiration:T Great post. I really must make more 'ready-meals' for my freezer especially for days like today when I have to sit watching dd swim when I should be getting tea:rolleyes: That makes me sound like a mean old mum -but I hate taking my kids to evening activities, I think my time is better spent cooking them a meal, anyway she can swim now -why can't we stop with the lessons?

I'm off out in the pouring rain with my holey shoes soon for my French class (might wear my wellies:D ). By the time I've got back and had some lunch it'll be nearly time to fetch dd from school. Then it's off again for the blasted swimming lesson -there probably won't be any space in the pool carpark because it is used by people who are not using the pool but shopping in town and avoiding carpark charges:mad: .

Then it's home to a pork casserole from the freezer which will have been reheating in the oven with some jacket potatoes.

My batch of yogurt should be ready by this evening. Tim I always freeze the other half of a pot of yogurt that I buy to start my hm stuff off. Once the batches start getting too sour I get it out of the freezer and start again. What you can also do is freeze some of your hm yogurt in starter-sized batches.
