Tag - thanks :o , and hugs for you. I sent you a response via web mail this morning from work so hope it came through ok. I am impressed with just how much you are getting done with all you have on.

I have been to work, just back and so far I have put the TD on and made some garlic bread for the boys. Need to empty DW, hoover downstairs, de-clutter LR and stairs etc, work out why the tv isn't working, iron some clothes for the rest of the week, clear out the ashes and put the fire on before we freeze and think of something for dinner.

On my list for the week I need to add:
make an appointment as per pigpen
    do some meal planning

I ahd a book out from the library a few weeks ago, a collection of letters from cWW1 - poetess, her brother, his friends - one of whom became her fiancee. Not a 'happy' read but one that really made me think about how people suffered, and with so little obvious resentment.

    Hello all
Back after a week off, failed my driving test (boo) but there's always next time I suppose.
    Carol

Aww Carol. All the best drivers fail their driving test the first time;) That's because once you have failed you become a professional learner.;)

I failed mine twice, though I was convinced I'd passed. When I took it the third time I was convinced I'd failed........but I'd passed with only 3 minors:rolleyes:

Don't leave it to long. Bang in for it again.

Am feeling overwhelmed at work at the moment - customers are taking so much longer to pay and not all suppliers are helpful. Had a letter from E4B's administrators this morning, saying our final bill will be calculated and sent out shortly - well, that'll be a novelty, we were with them almost a year and never had a bill at all, so we have no idea what we're going to be faced with   - well, I just hope they don't want it all at once, cos we'll never do it!

This Armistice Day has seemed closer and more poignant for me this year for a similar reason to yours, Dustykitten. I had always known about my grandfather's war service as Dad, Mum and I lived with Mum's parents until I was 5 and I adored my grandad. He had volunteered in 1914 and was blinded and partially paralysed in late 1915, only eight months after he and Grandma married. He was among the first admitted to St Dunstan's and was taught shoe-mending, weaving and Braille there. He was only 24 years old. His younger brother lived with the family and helped support them and we had always thought it was because he had gone with Grandad to enlist and then had changed his mind, felt terrible when Grandad returned in 1915, joined the Ambulance Corps as a non-combatant and then spent the rest of his life ensuring that his brother and sister-in-law and their family were cared for.
That was the story...... the whole truth is somewhat different. My Great-Uncle was a male nurse and he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps a couple of months after Grandad joined up. He served in France and then in Egypt....in Port Said he collapsed and fell into a coma and was ill for many days. Diagnosed with neurasthenia (we'd call it Post Traumatic Stress Disorder nowadays) he was repatriated and given a medical discharge in late 1916 - he received a short-term pension, which is how I found all this out (ancestry.co.uk). Perhaps it was because his commanding officer was a doctor, but certainly Great-Uncle was fortunate to be so diagnosed - others suffering the same disorder were disciplined and even shot.
I've worked on DH's family too - his grandad served and survived WW1 but his great-uncle was killed at the Somme and has no known grave.

So on Armistice Day, my thoughts and prayers are with ALL who have served and suffered, with all who are still serving, and with their loved ones.
