It will say in your service book. If you don't have a service book, call Renault and they will advise you, just give them your reg or vin number.

  • Based on what I've read I'd say do it now or soon, as cam belts often fail before the recommended mileage time period so after being stung myself I think I'd never take the chance and do it a bit earlier.

72k or 5 years is the imit bever IMo leave it more than 60k or 4 years though i've seen enough break

the 1.2 16V and 8v are very easy to do £160 is a good price realy the 1.4/16/2/0 engines are more expensive due to it being more excpensive parts you need the right tools and the labour being much more

I have a Clio 1.4 16v and it's time to change the timing belt, I have 3 quotes ranging from £600 to £870. A hell of a lot of money for changing effectly a part worth £20ish. Ok I've come to accept that Renault insist that as well as the belt all the pulleys should be changed and also the water pump. However recently garages are saying they must also change the alternator belt and pulleys which is what's adding another £200 to the bill. A bill of £400 I can live with, can anyone advice if the alternator belt and pulleys also need changing or are the garages just trying it on?

Go somewhere else!! I am sure you can get a cam belt kit for a reasonable price without compromising on quality. Let them assess the water pump whilst they are in there (but may be advisable to change it anyway).

As to why they want change alternator belt and tensioner at same time is beyond me............ unless they really need doing. Even so, that is a stupid price!!

I think that you are being overcharged.

I know that the Clio Sport is an absolute nightmare to change cam belt - but as yours isn't that model, I think that they are overcharging you.

Whereabouts are you? Roughly. Someone on here may be able to guide you to a good independent that won't rip you off!!

If alternator belt breaks, on some cars its possible for broken bits of alt belt to get inside cam belt cover & snap the cambelt.

    Wow............

Meanwhile, during a routine service it would be noted if drive belt was worn/cracked. Think you are being a bit dramatic and not very helpful to the OP.

Edit: Not the Op.......... I meant Sssssssss!!

good advise here i say, you should get the belt changed for under £250 including water pump. they could also advise the alternator belt needs doing while the cam belt is being done, a bit presumptous quoting it without seeing it i say.
