That's what I suspected, but thanks for confirming it. It does get very difficult for the non-regular London traveller to work out what tickets to buy - which I suppose is what they are relying on!isasmurf wrote:No, you can't because of the way it works. You touch in at the start of your journey and touch out at the end of your journey. Until you've touched out it does not know what to charge you, so you can't have three journeys started but not finished at the same time, otherwise how would it know which of the journeys you were completing when touching out.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
It's easy just get an Oystercard. Sure, you'll have to pay a £3 deposit but you'll save that in no time. 4 bus jouneys at £1.50 each would cost £6. The same journeys at peak time would only cost £4 with an Oystercard or just £3.20 off-peak. You can return the card at anytime to get back the £3. On the tube the savings are even bigger. Don't forget you'll always pay 50p less than a paper one day Travelcard too. Infact Oyster pay as you means you don't have to decide in advance what ticket you need.0

If only Oyster PAYG had capping for weekly/monthly/annual tickets.. highly unlikely.. but would be a really good feature.
You do need to buy a paper travelcard if you're travelling on NR.. hope the TOCs and TfL sorts out using Oyster PAYG on NR within London!你是废纸!!!1110 -
Just a quick one - not sure if this is the right place to post (please move if appropriate).
BE CAREFUL WITH OYSTER AUTO TOP-UP:
I have an Oyster card with auto-top up: you register a debit/credit card online, and when the balance on your Oyster drops below £5, it tops up from your designated card by whatever amount you have previously specified - £20 for me.
This was stolen on Friday, which I reported and was advised to cancel my auto top-up, which I did. However, the auto-top up was used on Sunday to the value of £20!
I already had about £23 on my Oyster card, so I'm now £43 down. I have been told that I'll definately get the money back, but that the operator I spoke to couldn't do anything immediately as the computer system was down and I should call back later today.
AHA! I thought - I'll cancel the instruction with my bank instead - just to be on the safe side, but with my online banking the transactions are only listed as debits, not as Standing Orders or Direct Debits! So I don't know if I can prevent this happening again - I'm off to call them now to find out.
Anyway - longer winded than I intended to be, but please be careful and do check the email account that you have registered with Oyster, as that's where they tell you that more money has been put on your card, etc.
TamDebt at highest: £68,000 plus mortgagesCurrent debt: £0.00!!!:D
Now I just have to buy my Dad's share of my flat back and I can start on the mortgage...

And valid all London Bus services, irrespective of zones purchased.0 -

Withdrawn completely. National Rail stations no longer sell them too.0 -

Since the thread was started they seem to have started some new discounts - including 25% off adults and kids tickets at London Zoo. Full range on display at the original link:

Actually if you only use buses it caps at £3 for the day.0
