I work for A HGV training school for which some other companies have written poor reviews to boost there company.
My best advice to any new student would be speak to the company get the full quotes in writing, read terms and conditions.
School that constantly chase you are more interested in the SALE than YOU, asked questions ie do you own the vehicles, have you a licence yourself, ask question about the course and test (what happens), also retest availability and price.
Then go with what you feel it is at the end of the day your money and your choice.0 -

I seem to have had the same problem, Directlgv advertise that I would get employment when I passed my class2, I paid appox £400 extra because of this. Had my licence now two months and still no class 2 driving job!! Must admit they did give me some work as a drivers mate in a 7.5. So beware of these advertisments :mad:0

Hello,
I booked and paid £805.00p for a four day HGV Class 2 driving course with Atkins LGV Training in Drighlington near Leeds, LS27 that included the test.
Day 1 was as I expected, getting used to a 10 ton vehicle and the strange split gearbox.
Day 2 was better, I was more familiar with the very same vehicle and controls.
Day 3 however, I was trained in a different vehicle and spent a while getting used to the different feel of the clutch and the all around differentness of the vehicle. Although it was the same make and model it was different to handle and a different year.
Day 4, the day of my test and I am presented with yet another different vehicle. I really had no other choice than to try and make the best of what I felt was a terrible situation.
Approximately 1 hour after first encountering this 3rd vehicle I was about to take my test. Not ideal conditions.
I failed the test on minor points that were gathered within the first 20 minutes of the test whilst I familiarised myself with the vehicle.
My instructor noted that I looked 'Gutted' and agreed that it was not ideal for me to have had to use 3 vehicles over a 4 day course.
I have been in touch with many HGV Training Schools since 03/10/2013 and they all agree that it is neither common practice or good practice to train someone in the manner that I was trained, in fact it is absolutely unheard of.
I have raised my concerns with the Atkins LGV Trainers in Drighlington near Leeds LS27 and have kept all emails that we have sent one another.
They refuse to accept any fault on their behalf and offer no refund or re-test.
They claim this is not an out of the ordinary way to train people.0 -
Not common practice, But good practice for real life,
When i took my test it was a 14ton lorry with a 6 speed gearbox. I passed my test and went to work the next day and thrown the keys to a 17 ton lorry with a splitter box. !!!!!! is one of those i replied then just handed the paperwork and off you go.
I had 4 or 5 different cars when learning to drive. The instructor went solo soon after i started lessons and always seemed to have a car in the garage.
You failed the test on the 1st 20 minutes of familiarising yourself with the vehicle? What did you do the hour before the test?
You need to think forward to what will you be driving after passing? Could be anything. Something different every day.

Had Atkins LGV Training been upfront and told me in advance that there fleet of vehicles were not up to scratch and barely maintained, I would have had the option then to go elsewhere.
It just did not cross my mind that they would be so inept at maintaining their vehicles.0 -
welcome to transport
i never have the same lorry and can have 2 to 3 different ones a day ranging from 11ton to 44 ton and trailers ranging from urban to the new extended ones with no time to get used to them ,
have fun we dothere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
I aint really heree to discuss the ins and out of experienced drivers, I'm just warning people to avoid LGV Trainers like Atkins that don't maintain there vehicles.0
