I need a new anitvirus

  • Never heard of it personally. I also stick with avg and also use adaware and spybot- search and destroy. I think it's best to stick with a major one, like avast or avg for free or mcafee/norton for a fee.
  • I currently use Avast (http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html) for my anti virusing needs. The 2 main reasons I like it:

    1. Protects computer pretty well
    2. Very light weight (does not blog down you computer as with Norton Antivirus)

But, AVG is just as good, but, I'm not sure how lightweight it is. I guess the users of this software will be able to comment on this part better than I can.

Last week I removed Norton from my OH's pc and installed AVG. He can't believe the improvement, and how fast everything zips along - now he understands why I've been nagging him about it all year!

We created a restore point, and removed Norton in the normal way, then double checked with 'ccleaner'. It only took 30 mins to do everything including the installing of AVG and Zone Alarm (which we had downloaded to the desktop, but not installed prior to Nortons removal).

Go for it - you'll be well pleased - but do creat a restore point ust in case.....

If AVG wasn't available I'd use Avast - but after 2 years trouble (and virus) free use, you tend to stick with what you know.

I use AVG too and Zone Alarm for free firewall. However, all others here have given excellent advice.

i use AVG, NOD32 and Kaspersky, but overall, NOD32's the best, and AVG comes a close second

Yes and install a freebie if its out of date now and you want to save
some money as some of the freebies are very good.

Two Anti Virus programs Running together is a no no.

Also get a firewall as In a previous post. and a scumware remover like
    Adaware and Microsoft Antispyware Beta.

Dont forget to download the programs (especially firewall) uninstall old stuff
then install new stuff,,, Offline ofcourse as if you have no firewall you may
    be under attack quite quickly.

Edit In recent tests AVG and Avast have scored the same marks.

I've tried 3 or 4 over the years and I believe NOD32 is the best. It has the power of the big boys but yet is non intrusive and uses minimal resources.

I can't understand why anyone would want to use anything other than AVG - it's free, uses minimal system resources (compared to other AV software), and frequently detects viruses that commercial software doesn't.

The only reason I'd stop using it is if they started charging!
