If however you're a business minded opportunistic individual, then you don't need me to tell you what conversation you should have with the agent!!!

    I like your thinking a lot ;)

Say: 'What's in it for me mate? How about a nice meal for me and the missus'.
  • I have a Let by board in my front garden and frankly its an eyesore nevermind the fact that I have had people knocking on the door asking if they can view my house and asking when I am moving... People dont see the "Let By..." They think its to let.

Let me know if you have any luck, I personally want this pesky board removed from my garden.
  • Have a word with the owners if you have their contact details and mention that you're not keen on having the board outside the property.

My guess is they will want to keep a tenant who has been there for four years and they will instruct the agent not to erect the board.

They do "manage" the property, so it's not like I've had no contact with them for four years. However I use the term "manage" very, very loosely indeed.
What you could do is say nothing, then some 'naughty lads must have taken it down and shoved it behind the wall - I didn't even notice.'

You may get away with that for ages. Personally, I WOULDN'T have it up in the first place!

    It's actually false advertising.

I know where I live we agents aren't not suppose to put signs up however this is ignored as long as they don't leave them up longer than 2 months after they have sold or let the property. If they are up for longer they get removed.

If they won't scratch your back you can report them to trading standards. (You can do it all online at https://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk )

Olly , that's what I said but wasn't sure but thought it must be the case - would that apply to a "let by" board then?

I've had to request my agent to remove a board recently, they never put a let by sign on it though just left it as to let and then left it as to let for weeks after the tenant moved in. They removed it swiftly after I asked them to.

Was it free advertising - probably

Is it though? The property is let by them.

It's to do with time scales.

They are misleading people - both potential tenants and landlords.

They are implying that they have other similar properties on their books that are available to rent and other similar things.
