Sneaky DFS

We brought a sofa from Dfs in 2001. Sofa arrived in time and a couple of weeks later we had paperwork from finance company to say the payments would start a month from when the sofa was delivered.
We then had to ring Dfs and ask them what was going on as we had asked for the year free and then start payments. She said obviously we hadn't as the salesman hadn't ticked that box and we'd had time to check the paperwork. We felt we had been totally ripped off especially with the salesman going on about the free year and 3yrs interest free credit. As we said we would like to take that out we assumed it was done on the paperwork. We've learnt the hard way, always check paperwork especially from dfs.:smileyhea:heart: Mrs Lea Nov 5th '11:smileyhea

Just seen this and have looked over my paper work and I too have been caught out, after specifically saying I did not want the PPI.
I haven't started my payments as of yet so is there anything I can do?0 -
help me please,
I am paying it off in 12 monthly installments.0 -

yeah ! SIMPLE JUST PAY FOR THE FIRST MONTH !.........................................................
.............Print off everything on this thread,{maybe others could e-mail you with their experiences } take them to small claims court, and sue for your loss doubt they would turn up anyhow. The cost would be around one month's premium, A WALK IN THE PARK. Reply back with the outcome !0 -
I fell foul to this last year, my first payment was March and was for more than I was expecting looked at the agreement and the sneaky salesman had ticked the PPI box I know I didn't as I already have income protection so would have said no if I'd been asked!! I just wrote to Black Horse who the finance was with explained that I'd not ticked the box and wanted to cancel the PPI, they were very good and cancelled it straight away.
Good Luck hope you get it cancelled.Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it0 -
why only pay the first month?

Happened to us - bought a sofa, told the salesman "no PPI at all", the box wasn't ticked... and yet the figures he produced included it. Ended up having a personal dialogue with someone high up in the company (can't remember who) and explained that they were about to land in court, and he offered me a hefty sum to shut up and go away, which I did. Fortunately, my other half works for the bank which operates DFS's credit arrangements so she could keep an eye on the account and see whether the PPI was cancelled. I was completely disgusted with their approach, and was even more annoyed when the only place I could find a sofabed I liked was... you guessed it, DFS.
If this happens to you, do NOT give in. They're a bunch of crooks.0
