seems lots of us have fallen foul of this, we have only just noticed as we are paying the sofa in interest free installements and it is more than purchase price, we were never shown a card and would always decline payment protection. perhaps we need some sort of letter from the site sent to dfs or maybe martin could casually mention it on one of his tv or radio appearances.

    Hi,

I would contact your local Trading Standards office and advise them that you are aware that a number of people have been missold this policy in the same way as yourselves.

We bought a suite last week and I left all the details to OH at the time...just noticed that the agreement has had the PPI box ticked which comes to a payment of nearly £200....robbers! [my experience of these insurances is that they promise to almost perform miracles - but should you ever try to invoke a policy - forget it - they wriggle like worms on a hook to try and get out of paying] bah!!
What now? My OH won't want to go back and hassle them to change it - she can't do all that bluff and buster stuff - and as all the details pertain to her, I guess that they won't listen to me??
Is there a 'cooling off' period or something similar to extended warranty policies that can be cancelled upto 14 days after signing, saying that you've changed your mind?

Under the Consumer Credit act are you not given a pile of paperwork which sets out your right to cancel etc?

You have 5 days to cancel - see BBC site for info.

    Thanks for the replies.
Have phoned and spoke to salesman and accepted his explanation that my OH was shown the 'laminated card' which he said he had to 'by law'!!, but that the PPI won't affect us as we have taken a deferred period of 1 year - we WILL be paying it all off in the summer [6 months early] - the PPI will only kick in if we wait until the end of the deferred period and then start to make payments as per sales contract.
Slightly confusing and annoying at the same time...all this faffing about to try and get a few extra £££'s out of us.....Buyer Beware!!

Suite has been delivered today and is as expected......only.....how do I tell if it HAS been sprayed with fabic protector?
We paid extra [about £300] for this and I honestly can't tell if it has been done or not. I have spot tested 7-8 different area's by dribbling a drip of water onto the fabric surface and all have instantly disappeared through it, without exception.
Does anyone know a 'test' or have knowledge of the process that would help determine if the suite has been sprayed or not?
    Ta.

It's similar to scotchgard [note spelling - real scotchgard has no 'u' apparently]. I remember the salesman telling my OH that DFS don't call it scotchgard anymore - but that it does the same job.
The covers, although removable, are to be dry cleaned only, or so my OH informs me!! WDIK

Anyone know how to tell if it has been done - apparently a drop of water should sit on the fabric surface, like a bubble, allowing you to gently dab it, to soak it up..... as said previously this doesn't happen - the water just soaks in straight away!
