I used Mysupermarket.co.uk to set up my price book (though I've been a bit slack about using the price book recently). Once you've got some reference prices for the main things you buy it's easy to then compare to e.g. Lidl or local shops. For example, I now never pay more than £5/kg for extra mature cheddar. Doing the price book at home, using a spreadsheet makes it much easier to compare price per unit volume or weight as well.
The Tightwad Gazette is fab! I haven't taken too many ideas from it so far but the whole philosophy is very inspirational.Must get organised and rejoin grocery challenge!0 -
Could we create a 'best of price book' thread, d'you think?
So whoever has done the research into the price of, say, mature cheddar, can share with everyone else their current 'I never pay more than' price. Then we'd all know whether a so called offer is really worth it.
Personally, I never pay more than..
£1.00 for butter.
25p for a can of diet coke (I know its a waste of money but OH loves it!!!!!)
25p for a muller lite yoghurt
£1.00 for a pot of reasonable jam.
Would this work?0 -
I tried to do a price book but found it too much trying to keep up with all the price changes, sometimes things can go up twice in a week so my poor little book was forever out of date. I'd go to get something from Tesco because it was cheaper only to find it had gone up overnight and was now cheaper in Asda!Dum Spiro Spero0
