How are you getting on with your price books? Has anyone else started using one recently? I'm trying to track down the best deals for things as I go to (work in) an Asda every Monday. I have a Tesco and Sainsburys within walking distance and could go to Morrisons now and then. I pass Lidl every day too.
You can get prices online from Sainsburys, Asda and Tesco, so its just the Morrisons and Lidl prices that you need from the shops. Our printer doesnt work so I will have to make my own pricebook, not sure how to lay it out but will have a look at some of the links on this thread.
No point to this post really but just wondered if anyone else has started doing this recently due to increased prices/finance etc?“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
On a similar note, did any of you know that Iceland is only £1 for 4 pints of milk? Tesco is £1.11! Cant wait tillI've got a 2nd freezer and can get lots to stock up on rather than getting the dear stuff which is nearer tome.
just seen the above post from just over 3 years ago.... what a difference now!!!
tesco is roughly £1.60, and my local shop (the cheapest place i've found it) is £1.34!!!0 -
I am still struggling to keep up with ever changing prices. Plus, now I am just one and am not buying food that often, I don't feel I need to keep a pricebook as much.
I do not know whether to go with cheapest food, or most ethical (so, shopping at the farmer's market butchers etc)We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
I know that some of you keep a price book, like the one in the Tightwad Gazette, and I was determined to get on top of it this year, especially for the three shops I pass on my way home from work. My only problem being I am hopeless at remembering to take things with me when I actually need them and could see myself collecting all sorts of scribbled notes
So, imagine my geeky delight when I found an app for my smartphone which lets me keep all sorts of lists, and syncs with my laptop instantly, enabling me to keep the info in a nice spreadsheet, and update it as I pootle round either the real life shop, or if I'm being hyper organised and doing my list online first! :j
This way, if there's a whoopsie or something, I will always have a quick comparison to see whether it's worth getting or waiting until they go on offer again somewhere else.
I know I haven't explained it very well, but there's a fab explanation http://organizedhome.com/kitchen-tips/make-price-book-save-money
Oh, and the app, if anyone would like to try it, is called Upvise. I'll let you know how I get on with it!0 -
Smartphones confuse me - I can just about manage the basics on my Blackberry and sometimes even have to take that into the shop to get them to do things to it for me
They even do my software updates on it for me as I have no clue!!!0 -

I am also remedial, and annoy the living daylights out of my best friend's DH with stupid questions on it! He was very kind and took it out of the box, set it up and showed me how to use it! :rotfl:0 -
Ooh thank you. I've set that to download now. I do try to keep track of everything digitally but I must admit I'm better organised with pen and paper, I've had to get a paper diary this year as my organisation fell to pieces when I tried to do it all with my google calendar!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Hi Everybody,
I have started keeping a price book. I write down all the things I buy most often and compare it to other shops. I shop at Tesco and Lidl for groceries. My local saturday market for fruit and veg and at Poudland for snacksand toiletries and Wilkinson also for toiletries. The sugar, free range eggs, bacon, yogurts, cartons of drink, cans of beans, napkins, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, washing liquid, cat food, to name a few is much cheaper in Lidl is cheaper than Tesco. I buy a small shop at lidl and one at Tesco. I cannot buy some things in Bulk as my two boys just eat iy more quickly! It doe not last!
I love the book The Tightwad Gazette. I have read most books on saving money but that is the best one and most inspiring. I still re read it every so often to get more ideas. Are there any other fans out there? What do you like about it?
I have to really cut back at the moment.
Best wishes everyone.

I'm glad that others keep a price book. Thought I was the only one. Bit obsessive, but it has saved me A FORTUNE.:j0
