Goods bought online discontinued but company not given refund

I know this doesn't help, but I have never bought anything from MFI in my life. Growing up in the 70s we all knew it stood for 'Made for Facking Idiots'.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune though and thanks for bringing it to the forum. Hopefully it will act as a cautionary tale and save some other MSEers the trouble you've been through.0 -
Just seen a report on GMTV about the financial troubles of MFI! Again.....
Yet they are still selling online and instores............0 -
They became insolvent (administration) on 6 October 2008.
Just had a look at their website. Its a disgrace. No mention of administration. The terms completely mix up the entity providing the goods (MFI Group and MFI Retail...).
I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole (or at least a credit card!)0 -
Same problem here, bought 2 wardrobes, 2 chest of drawers on the 6th of Oct, got a delivery date of Nov 11th, at least the driver turned up, but with only 3 boxes (i should have had 11). Was then given a revised delivery date of Dec 6th, i then cancelled and was told my refund would be given back within 5 days (debit card). Load of rubbish, i actually went into the store to complain and was told i would have to wait 28 days for a refund. This will take me to Dec 9th, my question is can i make a claim at the small claims court after the 28 day period?
cheers
You cannot take legal action against a company in administration unless it is with the leave of the Court or the Administrators.0 -
Do you have any ts + cs regarding refunds?
What reason have they given for changing the 5 days (which is reasonable) to 28?
Before embarking on the scc route, be as sure as you can that they will be in a position to pay up if you win. (You have to pay fees for a small claim, and these are refunded by the defendant if you win. If the defendant cannot pay, then you lose your costs as well as the money owed)
Hi and thanks for the reply,
I dont have the terms and conditions regarding refunds, cant find it on their website either.
The reason for the 28 days was because the managent buyout, backlog, blah blah blah. Just stalling tactics obviously, they've lied to me 3 times about refunding my money so i dont believe a word of the 28 days rubbish. Really starting to think i've had it now
p.s apologies to the op for hijacking this thread0 -

I'm afraid there is no point looking for protection in the Ts and Cs when a company is in administration.0 -
I'm not sure there is much you can do other than to badger the administrators for a refund.0

Ok, whats my next move? really dont have a clue about these things, any help would be appreciated
Well it would look like MFI has gone into administration so you have now become a creditor on them. You will need to contact the administrators. Afraid I have no idea who will be appointed at this time but their name and address will be on the doors of your local MFI store at some point in the near future.
Don't get your hopes up there is a specific list of priority creditors and customers dont come very high"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
