The children have to attend a long sermon where they are told that their religion is evil and wrong before they can get the boxes.
I will show your quote to my friend, the lady who has been over twice To Romania as she'll laugh her socks off!!!
As I've said before, why don't you give up some of your free time and go to your local depot/warehouse and see for yourself? My friend is going to Serbia next month with some other volunteers to handout the shoeboxes and they are paying for the whole trip themselves.0 -

I would love to do this. Is she going with Samaritans purse?
I may contact them about going next year, what a wonderful experience it would be.0 -
Shadej - blimey that box looks huge and is packed full of items - I can't quite make out everything but I'm sure someone will love it
- am off to buy some balloons for my boxes - will pick up some plasters too (hadn't thought of that)
..about the seeds.. I'm sure there are restrictions on sending food and seeds to other countries - maybe you could ring the charity and check as I do think it's a very good idea.
btw - how did you post your photo - I don't know how to do it0 -
Rev franklin graham is a war profiteer, an opportunist who is using war as a way to capture the souls of the 'difficult 10 40 window'. I will be giving to Link Romania.0

Shadej - I do agree with what you are saying, but, just to clarify - I know someone who checks and seals the boxes and no religious materials/leaflets are ever put in.
What I'm not certain about is how the boxes are distributed when they reach their destination - however, there is no doubt that they are given to children that have virtually nothing, and will bring much joy.
The reason there is no literature included in the boxes anymore is because of the intense criticism the Samaritan's Purse recieved. The literature is now handed out alongside the boxes. Personally I dont see the difference.
I have no probalem with evangelical preaching. My problem id to go to a wartorn country and take advantage of that for your own benefit. With a present in one hand and a bible in the other.
While I think the idea is a fantastic one and who could resist the look of joy on a childs face after recieving a box?
I wouldn't want the 'feelgood factor' of giving these boxes to cloud peoples judgement on right and wrong.0 -

You need to host the photo on another site. Upload your photo on Photobucket, Flicker, Facebook or any other site that lets you upload photos to the web.
once uploaded right click on the photo and select "Copy Image Location".
Then on the thread you want to Reply on . Click on "reply" not quick reply!
There is a small icon above the box you reply it, when hovered over it says "Insert Image". The Icon is a little mountain with a yellow back ground. Click on that and it will open a small box, right click in the small box and "Paste", click ok and its done.
That's how I do it but, there maybe a quicker way.0 -

For those that dont know about this scheme, basically, you wrap a shoe box and fill it with items suggested by the organisers (The Samaritans).
they are not anything to do with The Samaritans the crisis line. samaritans purse are a christian organization and their purpose, as well as delivering the shoe boxes is to spread and convert people to christianity from what i can see on their website, something The Samaritans would never do.
just wanted to make that clear, the y are not anthing to do with the (UK) Samaritans.0 -

I'd agree with most people on here and say that I would not want to give a gift in association with an evangelical religious organisation. I'm not a christian/religious so I would not want my gift given with a bible. If you are religious, would you want your gift given out with a message of athesim?? If you believe in God, would you want your shoebox to be given with the message that there is no God??
I'm playing devil's advocate (excuse the pun!) here, but you get the idea.
I'd much rather my gift be given with the goal of bringing happiness rather than 'spreading the good news', which is why I asked whether anyone knew of any non-religious appeals.
Famous.last.words. - your box looks great but I'd exchange the tampons for towels. When I lived in the Philippines and Malaysia I found tampons extremely difficult to come by outside of the capital cities as most women won't use them for a multitude of reasons. Filipino friends even thought I was being disrespectful to my boyfriend by using them!!The best way to forget all your troubles is to wear tight shoes.0
