Is this your house by any chance, Confuuuuuused?:rotfl:

If not, then you want to reduce yours. You're asking too much!!:p0 -
Pickledpink your post is the first one which has started to lower the tone of this thread by making unfounded personal attacks. Please stop these personal attacks on others.
Some people are wise before the event and some only wise after.
Lots of people have offered constructive advice to the OP about how to avoid this happening again. This is not the same as blaming him but just pointing out that his actions left the property at risk.
I'm glad to be able to learn from his experience and the other good advice. I expect that many people including the OP won't be caught in this position again so I don't think you can say that what he did originally leaving the door open and unattended was completely reasonable. Making personal attacks on others for being sensible and cautious and making assumptions about where they live seems to me to be unwarranted.0 -

How is a builder supposed to do his job if he has to stand guard outside the front door while the paint dries????????????????
OF COURSE he had to leave it open - by an inch - while he continued painting the lainding.
Do you consider that reckless then? What would you have done? Waited for the paint to dry?:rotfl:
As he was still inside the property I don't see how it's reckless leaving the front door ajar. Lots of people leave their front door ajar sometimes.
Nothing like going OTT there pickledpink
If you're not near the open door, surely it would make sense to have something that would alert you if the door was opened more, something that will perhaps fall over and make a noise...it doesn't take a brain surgeon.
Noise = alerting someone = likely to get caught :rolleyes:If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!0 -
Ok kids, grow up.
That aside, at first I was of the opinion that it was probably (although unluckily) neglegence on your part.
After seeing some of the responses, it got me thinking a bit more.
Your really going to have to discuss it with the homeowner. In the first instance, they should probably claim their insurance for their loss. It would then be up to their insurer to claim your insurance if they felt they had a case.
For your own phone, have you insurance on the phone itself or cover via YOUR contents policy or perhaps even a bank account that charges a monthly fee?0 -
I agree this has gone off topic - but Confused has insulted me consistently on various threads. To accuse me of being a !!!!! is unforgiveable in my opinion.
He was the one who started insulting me - so if he can't take it he shouldn't dish it out.
As for the OP - I disagree he was irresponsible in leaving the door ajar. It would have been far more irresponsible had he shut the door whilst the paint was wet!
And as he was actually INSIDE the property he did not leave it unattended.
I suppose some of you would say paramedics or the police are irresponsible when they're called to an address on an emergency and leave the door ajar while they're tending to a victim who may be upstairs in bed?
I think you're being mean to the OP. He was on the premises - working - and had no choice but to leave the door ajar. What else was he supposed to do while the paint dried?
Even if he had of placed a chair or stepladder outside the front door it could have easily been moved.
Of course, the person REALLY responsible for this is the low down piece of scum who stole the stuff!0 -
I have to stick up for PP here; I was shocked to read what Confused posted to her on another thread. I would be inclined to turn the other cheek, but his behaviour was outrageous as far as I'm concerned.
I don't think PP should have reacted the way she did, but I can fully understand how angry she must have felt.
With regards to whether or not the decorator is liable I would have thought not. My home contents insurance covers me for all eventualities and there are no clauses to say I am exempt from claiming a loss when a visitor comes to my house. We have numerous dinner parties and I actually claimed once when a guest spilt red wine on my new cream Wilton carpet; the insurance company paid out without hesitation.
I hope the decorator gets this settled quickly whatever happens.0 -

You can to tell me what you think i am? but when i tell you what i think you are, you get upset.heheheheheheheh!!!!
how old are you? sticks and stones hehehehehe!!!
Look im not the one whos pretending to own a half a million pound house and ive never said i have, you on the other hand like to tell people youve got a half a million pound house, no mortgage and you dont even work.
I havnt got a problem where i live but im not going to come on here and tell a load of porkie pies, so what if i live in chelmsley wood, whats it got to do with you where i live or what i do, i answered somebody elses post and you stuck your nose into it and started slagging that i live in a slum and that i was jealous.
The post itself had nothing to do with where we live it was about someone asking about what they should market there house at, and then you(pickled pink starts bringing classes into it, shes just pathetic.
If she dont like people giving her a bit of stick she shouldnt give it out, simple as that, and anyone who thinks im out of order take a look.

Listen Confuuuused,
I don't give a damn WHAT you believe! You're a NOBODY.
As it happens, I DO own a half million pound house (but that's not a lot in my neck of the woods). I also SOLD a house for just over half a million (£525k) to be exact.
However, I don't believe YOU own anything. There are no houses on Rughtmove in your area at the price you claim you have it on the market for!
I think you're just a troublemaker. A nasty little rude man. Nothing more and nothing less.
I bet in real life you're a MOUSE who wouldn't say boo to a goose. This is your outlet.
I just hope your Mrs doesn't give you a clip round the ear every now and then for being such a MUPPET!0 -
okay your right, what time you off out?? i bet your quite busy the weekends.
