robbed whilst working at a clients home

I know this is a little off topic, but this happened to me today.
I was decorating the small landing area of a clients house. When unbeknown to me, some theives sneaked in through the front door behind me that i left ajar by an inch which i had just painted and helped themselves to my phone and the house owners camera & laptap, the cheeky B******S!!!
Will the customers home and contents insurance cover the cost to replace the goods ?
or will i have to get in touch with my public liability insurers ?
Any help would be appriciated
What is this country comming to if i cant even leave a door open an inch to let paint dry whilst working :mad:?

    erm he should be claiming off you.....as you said YOU left the door open

    I had to leave it open to let the paint dry. Thanks, i will give them a call tomorrow.

    Did the house not have any windows?? I think you'll find their insurance will refuse to pay out if he tells them that you left the door open

    This is your responsibility because you left the property unsecured. So the house owner, your client, will be expecting to make a claim against your insurance.

    Yes the house had lots of windows. Why would i need to open the windows if the inside of the door is wet and cannot be shut?

    I'm not so sure. It's an inherent part of the job to leave the doors and windows open when newly painted. The householder knew this. As the decorator was on the premises, doing his job, I think it's just one of those things.
    No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!

    Oh for goodness sake!

    How is a builder supposed to do his job if he has to stand guard outside the front door while the paint dries????????????????

    OF COURSE he had to leave it open - by an inch - while he continued painting the lainding.

    Do you consider that reckless then? What would you have done? Waited for the paint to dry?:rotfl:

    As he was still inside the property I don't see how it's reckless leaving the front door ajar. Lots of people leave their front door ajar sometimes.
