IBack in business may be, but where do we get a good interest rate? ISA rates are not that great now and Egg Money has taken away its positive balance interest which was superb while it lasted. Any tips?

Mortgage offsetting a bad-rate offset is still a big one if you're "lucky" enough to have a bad offset rate.

A&L and Abbey (i.e. Santander) are offering 6% on balances up to £2500 with a linked 6% regular saver,

Number of other regular savers offering 5% and 6%.

Lloyds Classic Vantage is offering 4% on balances up to £7000 and you can have a few of these - just apply for the classic account and when it's opened do the internal "upgrade" option and upgrade it to the vantage.

You need to be prepared to do a bit of money shuffling from one account to another to meet their minimum payin requirements, but that's just a case of transferring it from one to the other and then back again.

My 0%BT with Virgin comes to an end in March 2010. I will be away Feb-Mar and so sorting out the next card to close it will be difficult. So am thinking of taking the offered Santander card O% till August 2010. Say I get 10K from them by month end, is there any place I can put it till Feb 2010 and earn decent interest? Checking all suggestions, the Egg Savings of 3.25% seems best but can I withdraw by Feb 2010? Will I get the 3.25% for the five months it will be in there? Thanks.

You can withdraw Egg Savings 3.25% money any time you like. Interest will be paid on the anniversary of opening your account. You'll get the 3,25% for 5 months at the anniversary date.

Would like to get back to my small time stoozing...
There's no fees if you do slow stoozing - i.e. get a card that does 0% for spending.
Halifax / HBoS certainly were doing cashback for a 9 months 0% on spending card.

I have never made use of 0% for purchases as I have stuck to the original rule of not using stooze card for purchasing! But must look for more options as there is not much saving going on what with BT fee and all:-(

The rule is not to buy and balance-transfer together

You talking about Jimmy's post re Halifax? He said they were doing 0% for 9 months - I remember that one, and here's YB's post re the same http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=14058915&postcount=13

Don't think it's still live though

edit - actually, yes it is ;)http://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/allinone_ros.asp

    There's also this one http://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/pluscard.asp

    • 0% for 3 months on purchases.
    • A typical 16.9% APR (variable)

Hello all, I applied for the pre-approved Santander Zero and requested 13K BT. Not heard from them, but today I saw a credit of 5300 in my Egg Money - details yet to come up. Am assuming it is Santander. This is the first time my BT is so much below what I asked for. Does this affect my credit file or whatever it is called. It is worrying as I have to pay off 13K to Virgin in March and will have to apply for another card.

    1. Does the fact that I got less than half of what I asked for get me a negative scoring?
    2. Does the fact that I now have two cc (my cards - Barclays current, Egg Money and Virgin BT cc) negatively affect my application for another for around 7K?
    3. I have a mortgage with Abbey that will be transferred to Halifax and a personal loan with Barclays.

    Any thoughts:-(

    1. No
    2. The # of cards does make a difference to credit scoring, but more important is the total available credit. You have so few cards though that it won't make any difference to you.
    3. If the personal loan is large it will impact your ability to get credit.
