Sorry in advance if wrong forum- tried searching and this appears to be the forum where others have asked.
Anyway, for ages no we've had the error messages "no signal received" or "techinical fault with this channel". It happens whatever the weather and its constantly throughout the day and its driving me mad.
Phoned Sky and we are out of warranty and they want £60 just to come out... Im sure you can are all thinking the same answer I gave- absolutely no way!
So Ive tried all the self help things on Sky and the only thing I can possibly think is that the dish is facing the wrong way.... worked this out as ITV central is constantly on/off with error messages but I can watch ITV London perfectly fine.
So now the question is... is it easy as just turning the dish? My neighbours have Virgin- do I point my dish the same way as theirs or is it different for the Sky signal- sorry Ive really no idea.
Ideally I want to cancel sky but my internet is with them and its so cheap and efficient Im wary of swapping it over.
Cant believe Skys cheek- we paid £30 installtion of the tv, then 6 months later we paid another £30 installation for the internet- even though the customer installs it themselves! Now they expect me to pay for an engineer just to come out- thats without fixing the problem!
Any advice/ideas appreciated

Virgin doesnt run off a dish, its cable ~ so im baffled as to what you mean by that
But by all means, ALL sky dishes need to point at the same transmitter, so point it in the right direction if it isnt already. Is there anything in the way of it? (trees, buildings etc), as if so, you may never get a decent signal.
If its sky +, you will have 2 leads going into the box from the dish. If you unplug the recording one it should double the strength of the viewing one (Though you wont be able to record of course):idea:0 -
Your dish probably just needs moving a very small amount to the side to rectify this, unless there is a new obstruction in it's " line of sight "...a tree/ new building etc.
Check the signal strength / quality in the service menu.0 -

Are you sure about that?, it is news to me, they run from individual outputs on the LNB, each is effectively an individual LNB, so I fail to see how the strength could double.0 -

Hmmmm
Its possible ive been given the wrong information. But once unplugged it will be easy to goto the 'signal strength' menu to double check:idea:0 -

ROFLMAO. Riiight. Only a slight problem with that. THEY USE SEPERATE RECEIVERS ON THE LNB so one doesn't affect the other.0 -
To the OP, you've got a hardware or wiring fault. It's not going to go away. By all means try the "I'll cancel if you don't repair it for free" but if you can't get that, pay the money.
The £60 callout is very good value and the main reason people tell you not to get Sky Cover. It covers everything so if the entire system has gone kaput and needs a full installation with a new dish, box and cables, you'll get that for your £60. It's not like calling out an electrician who'll charge you £60 to tell you what's wrong and then charge the cost of the job on top of that if it's any more.0
