Home Insurance when claim for 'dry rot' was paid out on

We had a problem with damp/rot. (thread for which is here:http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=423331) It's a bit long winded.
Basically, a company sent in by our insurance co. said it was a leak (so they could get the work), they sorted it & walked away. 6 months later, the problem was back. We got our insurance co in & demanded a proper investigation - what they should have done in the first place.
Eventually it was dry rot. We have pursued our insurers and exhausted their internal complaints procedure. They offered us a couple of grand as 'goodwill', (they obviously felt bad about not getting right the first time but insurance does/should not cover dry rot). Unfortunately the payment did not cover the costs of fixing the dry rot, so the case remains with the financial ombudsman.
We are trying to get a renewal on our insurance and it's ridiculously high - we have told them what has occurred and no-one wants to touch us with a bargepole, so premiums are double what our renewal is.
It looks like we are trapped by our insurer who we have a case against.
I've asked the Ombudsman for advice but I'm not sure they can help.
Can anyone here?
Thanks
Bo
