Broadband connection keeps dropping out

I use a Safecom router (model 4114). You can access various settings through a web page style interface. For the 4114 you type 10.0.0.2 into the address bar in your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox or other browser). This takes you to a log in screen. Enter the name and password then select advanced setup.
Under WAN configuration there is a there is a parameter "Disconnect timeout". On mine this is set to zero. Check the value on yours (assuming it is same type).0 -
helen21 wrote:ide had mine for 6 months when all of a sudden if i nipped to loo or anything it would disconnect, god it drove me nuts as most of the time if i was just reading for too long the bloody thing would disconnect, do both lights on modem go out when it happens?
No helen, only one of the lights flickers on and off. Mine is doing it right now, but if it is only for a few seconds nothing happens, however if it goes on for longer then it disconnects.
Had not been doing it for about 40 minutes. I have several work related emails to send and the blinking thing is getting on my nerves, as I expect it to cut me off at any moment.
Old typewriters with black and red ribbons anytime, I say!Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Many routers have a reset button. It is worth trying this if router is playing up. Take note of current settings before resetting!0

Pauls wrote:Folks,
I too had a similar problem with my connection. It would get dropped for no apparent reason, then the ADSL light on the modem would flash intermittently. It turned out to be a minor line fault between my house & the local exchange.
Click here for my previous post.
I also had the same problem and a very good BT engineer spent a lot of time trying to fix it - which i'm pleased to say he did. No line dropouts since. So might be the router but could also be the line.Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......0 -
Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Also the other thread link. I'm checking out those suggestions as well.
After reading other posts my situation does not seem quite so bad! But bad enough to be annoying or interrupt downloads.0 -
I am having the exact same problems, I had them with AOL eventually told them to get lost and connected with Virgin thinking it would sort it, but it keeps happening, I have tried everything, I am sure it is the BT line will they charge me if I create and make them come out?0

I would suggest that the first thing to try when having router connection problems, would be to upgrade the router with the latest firmware (from the manufacturers website):
e.g. http://adsltech.com/portal/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1494&KW=usb+flash
failing that, nag BT or your ISP until it is resolved..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
