Hi I made my first hamper today, well it was actually an emergency throw together. My bf told me not to get him anything for his birthday (Tues) as we are very skint but I felt bad and he is on his way home for the weekend. so I went to Morissons and got a lovely little pot with a Hyacynth bulb in it for £1.99, a lottery ticket and a bag of choc coins, I then added a wee bar of Lidnt dark choc I had in the fridge (saves me from eating it) and a mens Time delay face wash I got free with a Boots voucher. I popped it all in a basket I already had with some of the straw (thanks to the rabbit).
It looks not bad all put together. It wasnt expensive but it looks thoughful. My daughter is just finishing glittering the birthday card now.
Thanks for all your inspiration, Ill get cracking on some better ones for xmas.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

Thanks everyone - that's given me several ideas. My 4 year old has a fabric advent calendar with the Nativity scene (wise men, Jesus & Mary etc) fixed with velcro so he can play with the characters. It also has 24 small pockets to put things in, and up to now I've always just put a few smarties or a chocolate in each one. I thought a hamper wouldn't be any good because very few things would actually fit in the pockets, but there are so many nice things for children to do at Christmas - things that can't be stocking fillers because it would be too late by Christmas Day! (making cards, spraying fir cones, etc).
Anyway, I'm going a long-winded way around this, but I suddenly thought that I could do a hamper with numbered presents, and put a correspoinding number in each pocket in his calendar. That way I could plan when he got each present, for example, the crafty things at the weekend so we've got time to do them. The other advantage is that I wouldn't have to have all the presents ready by the 1st December, as some wouldn't be needed until the third week, so giving me some valuable extra time to put them in. Some of the presents could be 'ordinary' chocs etc, so that the cost is kept down and I only buy the things I think he'd enjoy in the run up to Christmas.
Sorry for such a ramble, but it does seem a good way to spread Christmas out a bit for a young one, rather than having it all and done with on one day.
I'm sure you could do the same thing with an ordinary advent calendar, opening it from the end or the back to put the numbers in then resealing it, leaving the doors intact? My DS would even believe that the numbers got there by magic as it was all sealed when he got it!0 -
