midnightraven -what a super idea and what a lovely hamper.........he'll love it :T

sheyo - You could put in a replica ration book (think you might find the image of one on google -print it out and turn it into a notebook)- anything to do with cooking then - food was still on ration - a book on the 1940's household tips............oh brains seized up. I'm sure if you google 1940's you'll find a load of ideas. Good luck -fascinating idea
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

For the 1940s hamper how about including some 'How to' packets. For example for the woman include a tea bag and an eyeliner, put in some celophane and put a tag on for 'How to give the illusion of tights.... 1. use tea bag to colour legs. 2. draw down back of leg with eyeliner to create the line' Thats abit poop cause its off top of my head and being 24 Im abit rusty on the 1940s! But Im sure if you google it you will find loads of the old tricks they used to do. Im trying to remember the stories my Grandad has told me but its escaping me now..... oh he did mention something about a desert being bread soaked in milk.

You could also put in some patriotic items too or to decorate it. Some bunting etc. #

This website lists some of the items used in 1940s http://www.!!!!!!!!!.com/retro2/lisanostalgia2/40sproducts.html It could be quite fun to put a tin of spam in there!!!!

Hi hope im not too late to help you out! I bought some retro sweets in next a few weeks ago. There were mini refresher bars and the white choc buttons with sprinkles on also a few others but I cant remember what they were. 99p a bag.

Also today in somerfield they had discontinued cds reduced to 74p and 99p some were top of the pops from various years between the 60s and the 90s. Tried to find my year but they didnt have it. Could be worth a look?

    Hello everyone

I'm getting some lovely ideas for christmas, but I need some help with ideas for earlier than that. Im having our second baby in August and my parents are coming from South Africa to help look after DS1 whilst Im in hospital (c-section so likely to be in for a few days). We haven't seen them for three years so I'd like to make some hampers for them-as well as DH (new daddy) and DS1 (big brother).
So far I have these ideas:
    Nana:
Sanctuary gift set (freebie with my face wash)
    Strawberry shopper (p&p only)
Angel keyring (from studio to put a spare house key on for her)
Personalised pen ( from Studio,DS1 starts reception while she's here so she will be getting him settled)
Pukka pad (which I'm turning into a kind of control journal for her with important phone numbers, bus routes to DS friends and fave outings etc)
    Tea bag envelope
    Mug
    Bath sheet
(Think Nana's is pretty much done?)
    Noah (grandad)
    Bath sheet
    Mug
Personalised pen and puzzle book (he is going to stay with my brother and commute to ours everyday)
    Chocolates
    Daddy to be
    "I love daddy bib"
    Earplugs
    Energy drink
Picture frame (I want to make one so looking for cheap kits)
Disposable changing kit (havent found one yet but I liked the idea)
    "Nappy changing peg" for nose
    New pj's for baby sick
    Daddies own "sick cloth"
Chocolate cigar (still havent founnd these either, but we aren't smokers)
    Big brother
    I have nothing yet

Any other ideas to add to or where to find these items will be greatly appreciated.
