HI everyone, I wonder if you can help me with a gift for my SIL
My SIL's partner died suddenly in August, it was a big shock but one of the positives that has come out of it was that my SIL started to say that there was no point in being scared of things any more. e.g. she has never been abroad because she is scared to go on a plane etc. She started talking about going to new york someday.
Now, I thought that for Christmas we could give her a dollar note in a little card-as a sort of joke/gesture gift to say "here's our way of encouraging you to go for it-here's your first step towards new york".
Firstly-do you think it's a rubbish/weird idea?! (Is it insensitive given how recently her partner died???)
Secondly- I will need to explain in the card what the present is supposed to be for but I'm not that good with words, can anyone help? (I don't want a rhyme or anything, just trying to summarise what we're trying to say)
thanks in advance, I'm driving myself potty here!
I think that's a lovely, thoughtful idea. I'm sure your SIL will take it in the way it was intended, she sounds like a very brave lady.0 -
How about a New York or USA themed hamper??
A dollar?a new york guide book?sex and the city dvd?hersheys choc?a New York skyline pic?A DVD of Friends (set in NYC) erm other NYC stuff?Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together0 -

It's a lovely idea mdhughes and not insensitive at all but it must be difficult wondering how to word the card. I'm not sure I'd actually know what to write either. But I think there'll be tears regardless of what you write, so bear that in mind if tears do fall. The first birthdays, Christmas, and all the other things that your SIL shared with her partner can't be shared any more
Could you write something to the effect that the gift of a dollar is a step towards her taking her first tentative steps towards a new and different life, but a life that's full of journeys that are still ahead, (hopefully all good) and that this is your way of saying that she'll be creating new and priceless memories that can be shared with yourself and others? Something that her partner would have wished for her too?
I'm useless at facing things like that head onso apologies for not contributing anything more helpful, but good luck and best wishes. x

Morning peeps
Finally got around to wrapping the Soap & Glory tray up, but it all seems a bit fussy. I'm not so sure about the fan effect, but couldn't think of a way to cellophane over the contents without setting off the pump-action device on the Clean on Me(Any ideas welcome

I popped into The Range yesterday and saw quite a few handy things like you've bought (above) It's brilliant in there at this time of the year and I could have spent a fortune! (I did but keep schtum lol)
I'm going to have another go with the S&G as I have a bit more waiting to be made into hampers, so I'll see whether it actally will work without wrapping at the topOh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. ~ Sir Walter Scott0 -

Snap! All I can see in our dining room is a mountain of carrier bags and baskets!! I did sort things a bit the other day, but had envisaged getting a few wrapped! Nobody told me the sorting and wrapping bit could take a while!!:eek:0 -

I daren't let my OH move too much with the camera Vicky, as then you'd see how bad my floor isThe rest of the house is out of bounds to visitors
but I take my hat off to yourself and rainmac x (My best friend has MS and has the same happy outlook btw. She never asks "Why me?" for instance, she's always thought: "Why not me?". She's amazing, as are you two ladies
)
Just tried the hamper again - it took up half as much wrap and no bow was needed, but it still needs some curling ribbon or something Anyway, here's the second attempt

Hi everyone - new on here and this year am going to have a go at making my family and friends some hampers! Starting VERY late however between now and xmas I'll have a lot of time on my hands so I'm looking forward to something to keep me occupied - very excited as my fav part of christmas is most definitely the giving!
I've been browsing various threads of finished hampers and I have to say they're looking absolutely beautiful, I'd be thrilled to open one of those on xmas day!
