This is not in a basket but i thought it looked good anyway. I sat two mugs (filled with sweets) on a box of milk tray, put a box of after eights behind, with a chocolate orange in front. Added a few rochers and then wrapped it all in cellophane.

Looks great, i like the non use of a basket!

    elaine - that looks lovely:T

MIL gave me two boxes of turkish delights (not that keen on them) and I've got a cappacino mug I put two flannels in (coffee and cream) - wonder if I can add something and create a pressie out of that

I've done a pot of gold to give to sons parents when we go down next weekend -they're really good to us, feed us, let us stay whenever we want and even give us a key...........I feel they warrant a bit more than some gold coins so maybe if I put it all together it'll make a nice pressie for them.

  • Lucky you rainmac :j that was kind of OH to buy you a laminator I have to print off my labels so i`m getting the card tomorrow.

If they look okay then i`ll leave them, if not then i`ll make the investment in a laminator for myself.

The basket was from john lewis in the christmas decoration section it was about £5.00, bit expensive but it for OH and he has a coffee machine that I bought at argos on nectar points to go with it !!.:D

lovely festive hamper elaine.. I`m hoping i have enough cello to cover all mine.

  • OK guys I need some help and honest opinions!

HI everyone, I wonder if you can help me with a gift for my SIL

My SIL's partner died suddenly in August, it was a big shock but one of the positives that has come out of it was that my SIL started to say that there was no point in being scared of things any more. e.g. she has never been abroad because she is scared to go on a plane etc. She started talking about going to new york someday.

Now, I thought that for Christmas we could give her a dollar note in a little card-as a sort of joke/gesture gift to say "here's our way of encouraging you to go for it-here's your first step towards new york".

Firstly-do you think it's a rubbish/weird idea?! (Is it insensitive given how recently her partner died???)

Secondly- I will need to explain in the card what the present is supposed to be for but I'm not that good with words, can anyone help? (I don't want a rhyme or anything, just trying to summarise what we're trying to say)

thanks in advance, I'm driving myself potty here!

How about a little passport holder and luggage tag set?
    Id say something like
Heres a little something to put towards your spending money in New York.
    OR
Use this dollar to put towards buying something from Tiffanys in New York (Or Sachs or Bloomingdales)
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together

Thanks Phunkles, I was also thinking of a cheap new york guide book-or a sex and the city one as she loves that

Sounds a really thoughtful idea - you've obviously thought it through and if you think she'll understand and be ok with it then go for it! Not knowing the person kind of makes it hard to know how it will be accepted - however if she's been talking about it then I guess it would more likely be taken well (if that makes sense). Perhaps you could put it into a glass jar and attatch some kind of label. 'First step to New York' sounds good. Maybe you could just write a little note saying that you respect her for wanting to try new things/not being afraid/how brave you think she is/that you hope this is not presumptous/etc? Just a personal little note. Sorry I'm not of more help, but hope this has been a little bit useful (I have a habit of rambling late at night!!). I expect someone with better ideas will be along soon!!!

    Hiya folks,

I got packs of wool in the sales earlier in the year which I'm knitting scarves with. The packs came with size 5mm approximately 10 inch needles which are no good to me, but would be ideal for a child to learn knitting and wondered if any of you guys would like them?

I have 3 maybe 4 pairs and I could pop them in the post Monday. PM me if your interested.

By the way I love the milk tray / after eight / choc orange other sweetie that tastes lovely and I can't spell hamper with mugs. It's gorgeous, simple but very effective.

Junior_j, I wish my teenage sons would take a leaf out of your book. They are not interested in christmas shopping let alone money saving, but I suppose it could be argued they are money saving by not shopping  . Keep it up, you will do well for yourself with the attitude you have !
