Yep, that's what I'd do with it too -30 mins per lb is right and 900g is 2lbs. Sairy's husband is, it is delicious. I don't use two lots of water though, and I keep the water it's boiled in as ham stock for soups. If you chuck anonion and a carrot in the water the stock will be even better0

Hi Jet,
The search function on MSE can be a pain sometimes. There is an older thread with more ideas that may help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the posts together.

I would either pop it in the slow cooker with a couple of tablespoons of water or roast it under tin foil in the oven on a really low heat for a few hours.
If you cook it slowly it should be lovely and tender whichever way you do it.

Ok, I've just put it in on low so hopefully it'll be ready to chop and freeze tomorrow.
It's mahoosive and only just fits into my 6l slow cooker.
I've used 1 glass of white wine, the back end of 2 squeezy honeys and a glass of water.
Next I need ideas for what to do with it once it's cooked.
I'm thinking of ham and potato pie with cream and veggies. Any more ides?
From the size of it I'm expecting it to do 5 meals easily maybe 7?
Best bit~ £7.99 from the butcher!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

Hi Kaz,
There are lots of ideas on this thread that might help:
Leftover Gammon

So gammon = cooked bacon joint then? I thought so but wasn't too sure!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

i just have to share this
i bought a 600g bacon joint for £1.99 just to try it instead of gammon (cos gammon's so much dearer!!)
i wanted it for sandwiches instead of buying 'plastic' ham
anyway, i soaked it for a couple of hours, then simmered it for one & half hours
when it was cold, i sliced it nice and thin using the electric slicer, and i got 14 portions all bagged up to go in the freezer!! that's enough to make 14 lots of sarnies!! :j
i just couldn't believe it! i was so excited i just had to share!! £1.99 for 14 portions!! :j its a bit greasier than gammon but the kids haven't noticed a difference0 -
I usually boil once, sling the water then put fresh in, gets rid of the salt. Oh or put coke or apple juice in instead of water the second time, that's nice too. I do tend to glaze with honey and a little sugar then finish it off in the oven. Oh and a trick which helps if it's for sandwiches, I make the sandwiches rather than just freezing parcels of it, freeze them ready made, very quick for packed lunchesOne day I might be more organised...........
