I do things like, buy a tin of peaches/mandarins/fruit cocktail IN FRUIT JUICE obviously not syrup! then make up a huge batch of baby food by slinging the fruit in a bowl with part of a pack of plain baby rice til it's a suitable consistency for the baby in question, and stick it in ice cube trays in the freezer then transfer when frozen to freezer bags according to variety. I find this easier than peeling, chopping etc and you can get canned fruit cheap and sometimes multibuy etc from supermarkets. My kids have all loved this for breakfast, or any time!
Savouries are not as popular, but if you add carrots it sweetens it somewhat. Does anyone know if you can still get free hand blenders from Surestart? They were doing them four years ago but it's probably changed...
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

I was just going to mention these i used this for my eldest she wouldnt drink water just spat it back at me!! I think the pot cost me about £2 and it lasted absolutly ages!!!!

My youngest was weaned at around 4months and by 6months was eating exactly the same as what we had in a highchair eating it with her fingers and she loved it!! Obviously i watched what she had and didnt add salt when cooking etc!
My eldest i stuck with baby foods until she was around 7/8months.

My youngest eats everything and anything my eldest is the fussiest eater you could imagine

With baby no3 i will be doing exactly the same as what i did with baby no2 ;)
