When they call and ask to speak to Mr Bloggs, ask who is calling. When they confirm it is AMEX (or any other credit card) and ask you to confirm who they are speaking with refuse to give your name.
This is an unsolictied phone call and you have no way of verifying who you are speaking to, it could be somebody fishing for your personal information for all you know. Make it clear to them that you do not give out personal information to cold callers (including confirming your name).
Usually at this point they give up (some will try and tell you they have a great offer that it would be a shame to miss out on), give them the silent treatment. When they go to end the call ask them not to call again.

I had some company on 'behalf' of MBNA call me last week regarding my AMEX
I normally fob them off straight away but my AMEX is a BMI Diamond Club one and I wanted to know how the recent Lufthansa takeover would affect my rewards so I stuck with them.
Unfortunately they couldn't help me with that and just wanted to know a few customer service questions. Importantly they didn't ask for any info whatsoever - not even to confirm any personal details other than 'Are you Miss XXXXXX?'
So it may just be customer service related the reason for the calls.

I signed up for the 5% american express cash back card about three weeks ago.
A few days later I recieved a phone call to ask what I would use the card for and detailsof how much I will be spending.
I still have not recieved card or Pin and now I have been told that the 3 months 5% period starts from signing up which meane that 5% cash back is going to be only two months. It's almost as if this is done intentionally
I would be interested if any body has had the same expearence0 -
Technically it isn't since you have a prior relationship with the firm.Clive_Woody wrote: »This is an unsolictied phone calland you have no way of verifying who you are speaking to, it could be somebody fishing for your personal information for all you know. As pointed out else-thread, they require the card-holder to (verify themselves and) remove the phone number from their lists.
Alternatively, the phone call could be (as Egg do) to alert you to unusual transactions on your account ( More sensibly, Egg use a number that shows on caller ID so it's easy to add to your phone book so you know it's them when they do ring; I've had a few off them - all but one call resulted from legitimate transactions.)
Either way, they're going to keep calling until you make yourself known to them by either proving who you are on the incoming call, or ring them up and ask them to remove you from their advertising lists.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

I've had quite a few calls from them over the last few months, but the last time I was a bit more abrupt than normal and demanded to know how I get them to stop pestering me. They said I needed to call customer services and would remove me from this particular promotion. I haven't got around to calling their customer services, but I haven't had another call since then
